Kimberly Perry Welcomes Baby Boy With Husband Johnny Costello

Kimberly Perry and her husband, Johnny Costello, have welcomed their first child together, son Whit Costello. Whit was born Aug. 26 at 4:01 p.m. in Nashville, Tennessee.

“Welcome to the world Whit,” Perry said in a statement, posted to her social media. “I feel like in one short week Dad and I have moved from a season of BLOOM into a SUPERBLOOM. Our lives have become sweeter, our days have become so much fuller, our sleep has gotten shorter – but our house has truly become a home. We can’t wait to show Whit the world – this bus baby is ready to roll.”

For Perry, this year has been a time of wonder and creation, personally and professionally. In addition to welcoming baby Whit, Perry signed to RECORDS Nashville earlier this year, as well as with Warner Chappell Music and Nicolle Galyon’s Songs and Daughters Publishing. With her work as part of the sibling trio The Band Perry on hiatus, she also released her first solo country EP, Bloom, via RECORDS/Columbia.

Perry revamped the storyline of The Band Perry’s 2011 hit “If I Die Young” — which was a solo write from Perry — working with Galyon and Jimmy Robbins to craft “If I Die Young, Pt. 2.”

“I didn’t want to rob anybody of their experience with the original version because it’s a song that meant so much to so many different people in their time of loss,” she previously told Billboard. “There have been a lot of comments that Part 1 ‘really validated my feelings in that moment, but I’m so grateful to have the Part 2, because it’s like we’re healing our inner child.’ It’s almost like the love letter back to all who fell in love with that original version. It’s this message of, ‘Hold on. Life gets sweeter as we live it.’”

TWICE Expands ‘Ready to Be Tour’ in 2024 With New Brazil Concert

TWICE‘s Ready to Be Tour is still in full swing, and now fans in Brazil can get tickets to an extra date.

The K-pop group — Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung and Tzuyu — announced via X, formerly known as Twitter, that tickets for the new concert were officially available to purchase.

The expansion will see the K-pop stars heading to Latin America — first with a previously announced stop in Mexico City at For Sol on Feb. 3, and now two dates at São Paolo’s Allianz Parque Feb. 6-7. São Paolo initially received a single concert date, but due to high demand, the tickets sold out just hours after becoming available to purchase, with the second Feb. 7 date being added. The feat earned TWICE the title of being the first K-pop girl group to sell out a stadium show in São Paolo.

Though the first São Paolo date is sold out, the Billboard Women in Music honorees revealed that tickets for the second date will be available to purchase starting Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. local time.

TWICE will hit a few more countries before embarking on the new leg of its tour — the girl group is currently on its U.K. and European portion of the tour, which kicks off with two dates at London’s O2 Sept. 7-8 and will make additional stops in France and Germany.

Bad Bunny Ties J Balvin as Artist With Most Videos in YouTube’s Billion Views Club

Bad Bunny has notched his 14th music video with more than 1 billion views on YouTube as a lead, featured artist or collaborator thanks to his collaboration on Nacho’s “Báilame (Remix),” also featuring Yandel.

The Puerto Rican artist now ties J Balvin’s record as the artist with the most videos in the Billion Views Club.

The official music video of the infectious “Báilame (Remix)” came out on Aug. 11, 2017, and features Nacho, Yandel and a then-rising Bad Bunny performing the song together. Nacho’s original track peaked at No. 5 on the Hot Latin Songs chart in October 20217.

Earlier this year, Bad Bunny earned his 13th title in the coveted video club with his collaboration on J Balvin’s “Si Tu Novio Te Deja Sola,” also released in 2017. Other of his titles in the list include “Te Bote (Remix),” “Mayores,” and “No Me Conoce (Remix)” — all of which have now surpassed 2 billion views.

Bunny’s next five videos in line to enter the Billion Views Club are: Lunay, Daddy Yankee & Bad Bunny’s “Soltera (Remix)”; Prince Royce, J Balvin, Bad Bunny, DJ Luian & Mambo Kingz’s “Sensualidad”; Bad Bunny’s “Yonaguni”; Arcángel & Bad Bunny’s “Me Acostumbré”; and Farruko, Bad Bunny and Rvssian’s “Krippy Kush.”

The reggaeton superstar now ties J Balvin, who in early August reclaimed his crown as the artist with most videos in YouTube’s Billion Views Club; both artists surpassed previous titleholders Ozuna and Justin Bieber.

Foo Fighters Rewrite Mainstream Rock Airplay Top 10 Record With ‘Under You’

Foo Fighters break the record for the most top 10s on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, as “Under You” climbs from No. 11 to No. 9 on the Sept. 9-dated survey.

“Under You” sprints to the top 10 in its fifth week on the chart, giving the Dave Grohl-led rockers 31 top career 10s.

That solely marks the most in the Mainstream Rock Airplay survey’s 42-year history, snapping Foo Fighters out of a tie with Shinedown.

Most Top 10s, Mainstream Rock Airplay
31, Foo Fighters
30, Shinedown
29, Five Finger Death Punch
28, Godsmack
28, Tom Petty (solo and with the Heartbreakers)
26, Disturbed
26, Metallica
26, Van Halen
25, Papa Roach

Foo Fighters first hit the Mainstream Rock Airplay top 10 with their debut single “This Is a Call,” which reached No. 6 in August 1995. They currently have a streak of five straight top 10s going, dating to “Waiting on a War” in 2021.

Of those 31 top 10s, 12 have reached No. 1, most recently the six-week ruler “Rescued,” the single prior to “Under You” from Foo Fighters’ latest album, But Here We Are.

Previously, “Under You” extended Foo Fighters’ record for the most top 10s on Alternative Airplay (30) and gave the band sole possession of the most Rock & Alternative Airplay top 10s (16, dating to the chart’s 2009 inception).

Concurrently, “Under You” jumps 8-3 on Alternative Airplay and 29-20 on Adult Alternative Airplay. On the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, it remains at its No. 2 high with 5.6 million audience impressions, up 16%, Aug. 25-31, according to Luminate.

On the multi-metric Hot Hard Rock Songs list, “Under You” rises 11-9, returning to the top 10 for the first time since it reached No. 8 on the June 17 ranking, when But Here We Are made its chart start. In addition to its radio airplay, the song earned 371,000 official U.S. streams Aug. 25-31.

But Here We Are, Foo Fighters’ 11th studio set, debuted at No. 1 on the Top Alternative Albums chart dated June 17 and has earned 127,000 equivalent album units to date.

Man from Springfield Sentenced for Assaulting His Ex-Girlfriend

A man from Springfield will spend several years on probation after being convicted of assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

Investigators say Rostell King was seen on surveillance footage with his ex at the Vue Apartments on East Walnut in July of last year.

The footage shows him punching and kicking the victim, leaving her with scratches, bruises, a broken tooth and 12 stiches.

King pleaded guilty to a first-degree assault charge and was sentenced Wednesday to five years probation.

Prosecutors believe his actions should have warranted time in prison, and say this was not an isolated incident, according to the victim.

35 Highlights From 35 Years of Billboard’s Alternative Airplay Chart: Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Billie Eilish & More

“In 1988, after a short-lived format boom in the early MTV era, alternative radio was again attracting the attention of major-market group broadcasters,” Ross on Radio editor, and Billboard alum, Sean Ross wrote in 2013.

“In the late ’80s and early ’90s,” Ross noted, “the core acts of alternative were still very much The Smiths, Depeche Mode and The Cure, but 10,000 Maniacs also [had] a place, and there [was] a significant female singer-songwriter presence, with Edie Brickell, Tracy Chapman, Patti Smith and Joan Armatrading.”

Reflecting the format’s ascent, in the Sept. 10, 1988, Billboard issue, the Alternative Airplay chart, then titled Top Modern Rock Tracks, began. Siouxsie & the Banshees’ “Peek-a-Boo” led the first list — becoming the first of 434 No. 1s and counting, through Bad Omens’ “Just Pretend” on the latest, Sept. 9-dated chart.

Over the chart’s first 35 years, alternative has welcomed acts ranging from one-time entrants to those that have been core to the genre over the survey’s entire existence. Along the way, British bands and singer-songwriters, as Ross chronicled, served as key hitmakers, followed by the format’s segues to grunge, nu-metal, Lilith Fair-era female folk-rock and a return to synth sounds in recent years.

Summarized Ross in 2013, “The alternative radio format is built upon the promise of what’s coming next.”

(Similarly, when the chart began, 29 stations comprised the reporting panel; today, over 50 do. Shout-out to the two both at the start and now: KROQ Los Angeles and XTRA San Diego. Tracy Chapman’s chart presence is likewise as welcome in 2023 as it was in 1988.)

As Billboard celebrates the Alternative Airplay chart’s 35th anniversary, below are 35 of the most notable feats achieved on the ranking. Included are the acts with the most No. 1s and top 10s, the elite songs that hit No. 1 on both Alternative Airplay and the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, and more.

Given the winding road that the format has traversed, it’s difficult to predict what artists and songs will rewrite records by the time of the Alternative Airplay chart’s 40th anniversary. As Chris Payne, former Billboard writer (and author of the newly-released book, Where Are Your Boys Tonight), wrote for the survey’s 30-year mark, echoing Ross, “A period of considerable destabilization in alternative very well may prove to be healthy long-term — a sort of refresh on the genre, in which artists and programmers will no longer be beholden to the bedrocks of alternative radio past, and can try anything and everything to see what works.”
