“The temperature is rising, and so is the need for blood,” said Michelle Teter, Media Relations Representative for Community Blood Center of the Ozarks. “Summer is a challenging time for the blood supply. School breaks, vacations, and busy schedules often negatively affect summer blood donations, but the need for blood never takes a vacation. We are encouraging everyone to come in, roll up a sleeve and help us keep the heat off the local blood supply. Your donation will give others, right here in the Ozarks, the chance to make new summer memories.”
Appointments are strongly encouraged to help avoid wait times.

Choosing a restaurant as a couple can feel like a high-stakes game of culinary compromise. One wants tacos, the other’s craving sushi—and somehow, it always ends in pizza. The real challenge isn’t finding a place to eat; it’s surviving the decision process with your appetite and relationship intact.
On our show recently, we talked about this roadblock that so many couples face. We asked Dove listeners to help us out with ideas—and they came through! Maybe these suggestions will help you too.
One great idea is “Dating the Alphabet.” It’s a fun challenge where you dine out A to Z. Find a place you haven’t tried before—start with A, then B, and work your way to Z. It turns dinner into a collaborative and exciting adventure!
Another fantastic tip: write the names of different restaurants on slips of paper, toss them in a bowl, and randomly draw one. Easy, fun, and spontaneous.
And if you’re into apps and a little bit of risk, try “Restaurant Roulette.” There are some great apps with wheels you can spin to decide where to go.

Summer is officially here and it’s already HOT outside. We’re all going to be looking for ways to cool off. Maybe you stay inside in the cool AC. Maybe you keep a pitcher of cold iced tea or lemonade nearby. Some people like to head to the lake and catch a breeze and a cold beer. As for me, I’m gonna be floating in the backyard pool.
I have to give my wife, Kelly, a big shout out for working so hard to get the Howard pool up and running. She was worried about the grime and the leaves and the thousands of tadpole eggs, but she’s got it all clean and looking good. I’m sure she’s floating in it right now and she deserves it. It takes a little work to get a pool clean but now we enjoy the fruits of her labor. Whatever you’re doing this summer, have fun, stay safe and most of all stay cool!
While the weather hasn’t got the memo, it’s (unofficially) summer in the Ozarks! How lucky are we to spend the summer in such a special place? I would put the natural beauty of the Ozarks up to any place in America.
My family floating down the Niangua River in 2020.
The weather, well, that’s a different story.
If you’re looking for great places to visit nearby, here are a few of my favorites:
Silver Dollar City – even on the hottest of days, there is plenty of shade to be found and water rides to cool down on. I’ve been when it was well over 100 degrees, so I speak from experience.
Lake of the Ozarks – I grew up going to LOZ and I love the hustle and bustle that Lake of the Ozarks offers. I also love the natural beauty of places like HaHaTonka. Park back in the cove and swim in the crisp water coming from the natural spring.
Table Rock Lake – It’s a completely different kind of beautiful and Table Rock Lake holds a special place in my heart, it is where I learned to water ski after all. Make it a goal to find Crisco, the Table Rock Lake goat. He will not disappoint.
Lake Taneycomo – The water in Taneycomo is downright chilly! It feels perfect on a hot day. If you find yourself at The Branson Landing, go down to the docks and dip your toes in.
Float trips with the family – Half of my family loves a float trip, half does not. One of my favorite ways to spend a summer day is floating down the Niangua at Bennett Springs State Park.
Beebe’s Waterslide – This is one of those hidden gems of the Ozarks! If you are near Cassville, you must try Beebe’s Waterslide. It’s 300 feet long, and for $12, you can ride to your heart’s content.
Before long, the heat and humidity will settle in—classic Ozarks summer. Those steamy days will roll into muggy evenings lit by fireflies dancing in the dark. The best part about spending summer in the Ozarks? Some of the greatest joys of summer around here don’t cost a thing.
