At 40 years old, it’s an odd feeling being the new kid on the block. While I’ve had many years working in television news, radio is an entirely new frontier. As they say, “Old dog, new tricks.”
I’m thankful for this new opportunity, even though there has been a major learning curve. Remember, “Old dog, new tricks.” I thought it would be fun to share a little about what I’ve learned during my weeks of training.
Slow down.
No really—slooooow down. Even though I talked too fast for radio, it’s okay to slow down in other areas of life as well. Odds are, people will understand you better when you do.
Get to the point.
You’ve got about seven seconds to catch somebody’s attention. Get to the point—but make it interesting. Life’s too short to be boring.
Fun stories are great, but stories about life are the most well-received.
In the end, people are interested in real, far-from-perfect, messy life. Isn’t that a relief?
I’m thrilled to be hosting 98.7 The Dove from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every weekday. I hope you can slow down and listen in while I get to the point—sharing stories about my messy life. We’re going to have a great time!
