Welcome to the world of radio, Old Dog.

thumbnail natalienunn dove 1080

At 40 years old, it’s an odd feeling being the new kid on the block. While I’ve had many years working in television news, radio is an entirely new frontier. As they say, “Old dog, new tricks.”

I’m thankful for this new opportunity, even though there has been a major learning curve. Remember, “Old dog, new tricks.” I thought it would be fun to share a little about what I’ve learned during my weeks of training.

Slow down.
No really—slooooow down. Even though I talked too fast for radio, it’s okay to slow down in other areas of life as well. Odds are, people will understand you better when you do.

Get to the point.
You’ve got about seven seconds to catch somebody’s attention. Get to the point—but make it interesting. Life’s too short to be boring.

Fun stories are great, but stories about life are the most well-received.
In the end, people are interested in real, far-from-perfect, messy life. Isn’t that a relief?

I’m thrilled to be hosting 98.7 The Dove from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every weekday. I hope you can slow down and listen in while I get to the point—sharing stories about my messy life. We’re going to have a great time!

Summer’s coming

Kevin…

It’s not here yet, but it won’t be long. We’re in preparation to open the Howard family pool soon. Mama got it mostly cleaned out, but we’ll have to drain it some more because of all the rain we’ve had lately. We’ll pick up some fresh pool noodles and floaty things and spruce up the back yard a little and we will be totally ready for some summer pool action! Are you doing anything to gear up for summer? let us know by leaving a voice message from the 987 The Dove App.

EASTER!

Blog by: Chris Louzader

As a kid, Easter was pure magic!  Family gatherings, brightly colored eggs, and waking up to the best Easter basket overflowing with candy and treats left of course, by the Easter bunny!  Any Easter egg hunt was so thrilling.   The new spring outfit is the best!

As an adult, Easter takes on a quieter, more reflective tone. It’s still about family gatherings and keeping the traditions alive. I have more appreciation for the meaning behind the day.  The change of seasons is still wonderful.  It’s more about gratitude, but I still want a peanut butter bunny!

Always A Good Time At Silver Dollar City

Kevin…

When I first started doing mornings here in Springfield I had never heard of Silver Dollar City. Now, after almost 30 years of doing radio remotes there, it’s one of my favorite places to go. My kids grew up going with me and having so much fun. My son, Sam, said his first words there. Something about a puppy. My daughter, Lilly, spent countless hours going in and out of Grandfather’s Mansion. Her first ride, like many visitors, was Fire in the Hole. We were lucky to be among the first to ride all the new rides when they opened. So many great memories.

I’ve gotten to know the staff and players that entertain people every year. All great people who are passionate about what they do. I feel a little like part of the family. I’ve met the Herschends and heard the stories about the early years and the Marvel Cave. It has been pretty cool to watch the park grow so much over the years and it’s still going and growing strong. Got to shout out to Brad Thomas the GM and Mayor of the city for always taking time to to talk to everybody and making everyone feel welcome. Oh…and did I mention the food? I’ll bet I’ve eaten a hundred pounds of yummy treats over the years.

Chris and I were out there again this week to kick off an all new festival, the Spring Exposition. As always, it was a great time and interesting to see all the progress in the park. We’re lucky to have America’s favorite theme park right here in our own back yard and I look forward to making more memories there over the next 30 years.
