Predictions for the Next Total Eclipse.

Kevin…

It’s going to be a little while before we experience the next total eclipse. Sometime in the year 2045. I hope to still be around to see that one. My wife and kids can wheel me out to the back deck in my Jetsons style scooter and put some cool modern eclipse viewers on my head. Hook me up with a cold one and put me back in my hyperbolic chamber when it’s over. I’m looking forward to it.

I have a few predictions for that same year. Want to hear them? Here they are:

First off, in 2045 life expectancy will be much longer. Heck, I might even be around for the next few total eclipses.

I’ll be loaded up with a bunch of fun brain implants. One to watch whatever I want on my hologram projector, no remote needed. One to telepathically communicate with my dogs. Even one to crank up the tunes in my head without headphones. I’ll just think of the song I want to hear.

We will finally have flying cars but I still won’t trust them.

Many of my neighbors will probably be cyborgs. That’s ok. We’ll get along fine.

The Rolling Stones will be in the middle of their 2045 Can’t Stop Rocking tour.

See you at the next eclipse. What are your predictions?

THE GREAT COOKIE THIEF!

Blog by: Chris Louzader

They only come along ONCE A YEAR … Those tasty little treats known as GIRL SCOUT COOKIES! I received a video request from one of my friends’ kids to buy some, so I DID.  I got a box for Don Louzader … Thin Mints and I got a box for myself, Peanut Butter patties.  YUM!

This is where the story goes awry … Don eats his WHOLE BOX Thin Mints in one fail swoop, like in just a couple hours.  I was rationing my Peanut Butter Patties … like two a day.  It took me several days to go through one of two sleeves.  I had the second and last sleeve tucked away in the cupboard.  A couple of weeks went by and I was like, oh yeah, I have another sleeve of Girls Scout cookies – Woo-hoo!  I ran to the cabinet like I was running an Olympic race.  They weren’t where I’d put them … I looked everywhere moving everything … NO sleeve of cookies.  And, said a loud, Mmm … I thought I another sleeve of Girl Scout Peanut Butter Patties.  I walk into the living room, I’m going nuts I guess, I thought I had more cookies I was saving.

The guilty party DID come forward right away!  Don Louzader had a look on his face that was a combo of Uh-Oh / Shame / Apology ALL in one.  Don said … “I ate them … I thought we were sharing?”  I asked him how many Thin Mints I got, he said, “none!” I think that made the point.  My suggestion is hide your cookies friends

Baseball is back…

Kevin.

Baseball is back…and James Earl Jones summed it up best in the movie Field of Dreams. He said, “And they’ll walk out into the bleachers; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They’ll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the baselines where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they’ll watch the game and it will be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they’ll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come, Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steam rollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it is a part of out past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good and it could be again.”

Profound! But if that doesn’t do it for you…there’s always Garrett Morris as Chico Escuela on Saturday Night Live. “Baseball has be berry berry good to me.” Play Ball!!!

An Evening With Mecole Hardman

As a five-star recruit from Elbert County High School, Mecole Hardman committed to the University of Georgia. As a standout wide-receiver and return specialist for UGA, Mecole helped bring Georgia a SEC Championship in 2017. After his junior year Mecole decided to enter the 2019 NFL draft, where he was picked by the Kansas City Chiefs in the second round. Mecole has since been named a Pro Bowler and has been a vital part of three Super Bowl Championships with the Chiefs.

Outside of football, family is the most important thing to Mecole. He describes his mother and his father as his best friends. Mecole and his partner have a one-year-old baby boy who they named after Mecole’s father, Carey Mecole Hardman, Sr., and now they are waiting the arrival of their second child, a baby girl.

Mecole signed with the New York Jets in March of 2023 and was traded back to the Chiefs seven months later.  In Super Bowl LVIII, Hardman scored the game-winning walk-off touchdown in overtime.

In this special evening in the Meridian Title Performance Hall with Hardman, he will share about his life, challenges, and how he found success as a way to inspire others to follow their dreams and the hard work it takes to achieve those. This event is also a fundraiser for Care to Learn.  Proceeds from the evening will go to help meet the health, hunger, and hygiene needs of local students.

Donations to Care to Learn can also be made when purchasing tickets or the night of the event.

Care to Learn was founded to help students succeed. It was created to help the child who desperately needed a pair of new shoes and the child who didn’t have enough food to make it through the weekend. By meeting the needs of students in the areas of health, hunger, and hygiene, Care to Learn can bring hope and help to students who desperately need it. Nixa’s Care to Learn chapter has seen an increase in the number of students needing assistance through their Back Pack Buddy program, where food is sent home with students in need every weekend throughout the school year.  The goal of the evening is to raise enough funds to take care of 100 students through the Back Pack Buddy Program.
