FIRE IN THE HOLE!

Blog by: Chris Louzader

Fire In The Hole!  A Silver Dollar City tradition since 1972!  This is the first ride I ever rode when I was tall enough to pass the measurement marker.  This ride was a staple throughout my childhood into my adult years.  And, at 53 years old, I took my LAST ride this past October!

With much anticipation I hopped on the NEW Fire In The Hole this week!  If you loved the original ride, the nuances are STILL there.  The upgrades to the sound, the displays – adding video – are GREAT.  There is a tease drop early on before the BIG plummet.  I love that Silver Dollar City did not just “close it down” and move on.  There are NEW memories to be made with new generations of riders.  HAVE FUN and hold on to your pants from the Baldknobbers!   Fiiiiirrrrreeee innnn the Holllleeeee!!!

M O M

Blog by: Chris Louzader

The family celebrated my mother’s milestone birthday this past weekend.  Mom, she’s THE BEST! She’s 100% been there with warmth, no boundaries, unwavering support and boundless affection.  Mom has made me who I am today.  She did everything for me … raised me right, put braces on my teeth, put me through school, gave me great advice to shape my future.

I know many do not have their mom’s still with them and just in their hearts.  And, some have strained relations.  So, I’m thankful and celebrate my mom with gratitude and admiration.  CHEERS for more joy, laughter, and cherished moments together.

Spring Has Sprung!

Kevin…

Springtime! The Birds are chirping, the trees are blooming and our noses are running. The sun is shining a little brighter too. The nice weather always puts me a better mood. I like to open up the windows and pull the blinds up… as long as I’m fully dressed.

The Howard’s enjoy hanging out on the back deck like most people. I’ll have to clean up the old grill and throw some burgers and dogs on. We’re also going take the tarp off the backyard pool here real soon. It’s Kelly’s favorite place to be. Floating in the pool with a mimosa and some tunes going. It’s absolutely her happy place. Where’s your happy place in the springtime? Wherever it is, hope you get to spend some quality time there this spring.

R.I.P Drive By Dave

Kevin…

Very sad news to share today. One of my great friends and cohorts on the air for more than 25 years, Drive By Dave, has passed away. Dave Presley was solid gold. One of the nicest people you could ever meet. Always met you with a smile and ready to play along with whatever was happening on the show. Telling jokes. Eating crazy foods and spreading positive energy. He became a well loved radio celebrity for many years.

I called him “Drive By” because back in the 90’s he’d stop by the station a few times a week and hang out, but if he was in a hurry, he’d at least drive by and honk the horn. He showed up at station events and always pitched in when he could on local causes. Dave was a Springfield kid all the way. Born and raised here. Met his wife Peggy in high school, at Glendale. He loved his football and baseball, rock and roll and hanging out at the lake and he was proud of his son, Adam.

Dave was a kid a heart and a true friend. Always up for just about anything and a good hearted dude. Everybody should be a little more like Drive By Dave but, there was only one of him. One of a kind. We’re gonna miss you buddy.

It’s Academy Awards time!  Here are my predictions …

Blog by Chris Louzader:

Awards season technically begins for me in October.  As part of being a voting member of the Critics’ Choice Awards, that is the month I begin receiving movie screeners for voting contention.  The Golden Globes are in January as well as The Critics Choice Awards.  Followed by the Screen Actors Guild Awards in February.  All of these are THE ROAD TO THE OSCARS!

Why do I love this season?  Anything that highlights movies and celebrates film is so FUN to me.  I’ve loved movies on the BIG SCREEN since I was delighted by 1978’s GREASE when I was 8-years old at Springfield, MO’s PETITE 3 CINEMA!

I have my annual predictions for this Sunday’s Oscar Ceremony.  This list is who I think WILL win, not necessarily who I WANT to win:

Supporting Actress = Da’Vine Joy Randolph – THE HOLDOVERS

Supporting Actor = Robert Downey Jr. – OPPENHEIMER

Lead Actress = Lily Gladstone – KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON *Emma Stone had been winning everything till the SAGS

Lead Actor = Cillian Murphy – OPPENHEIMER  *I would NOT cry if Paul Giamatti was a surprise winner for THE HOLDOVERS

Director = Christopher Nolan – OPPENHEIMER

Picture = OPPENHEIMER *Not nominated or given the credit it deserves, but I loved AIR

If you get into it … I’d love to know your picks!  Happy Oscars!

Grandmas are Special

Kevin…

Most of us had very special relationships with out grandmothers. I know I did. Mom Mom was the best and she spoiled me rotten. I loved spending weekends with her and I think about her all the time. She passed away when I was 14 so I never got to spend time with her as an adult.

I bring this up because I’m really happy that my kids, 19 and 16, still get to spend quality time with their Nana. They enjoy going over to her place at least once a month to have lunch with her and Pa Paw. They look forward to it. It doesn’t hurt that she’s a great cook, but they do it on their own. We don’t bring it up. They just tell us when they’re going and usually spend a few hours at at time. Nanas are the best. We should never take them for granted. So with love…big shout out to Nana!

Would you eat Liver for 100 bucks?

Kevin…

I love liver and onions. Beef liver, chicken livers, fry it up and I’ll eat it. I’ll put a little Heinz 57 on it too. Yum! We talked about food you would not eat, even if someone gave you $100. I really couldn’t think of anything. There are foods I don’t enjoy, but show me the money and I’d eat anything…as long as it’s classified as food.

Chris on the other hand has a long list of foods I couldn’t pay her to eat. Like Tuna fish, cottage cheese, any kind of seafood or meat. No mayonnaise or ranch dressing. No mushrooms…and especially no liver. Many of you agree about the liver on our Facebook page. Liver may have been the number one answer. What about you? Is there something you wouldn’t even take a bite of, even for the money?

, Cleaning Out The Closet

Blog By:  Chris Louzader

I do NOT love “projects” and my OCD does not usually allow things to get to “project” status.  But sometimes the CLOSET gets a little ignored.  Doe this happen to you?  I waited till I knew that Don Louzader was going to be out of the house for several hours and I went “in for the kill” for our shared walk-in closet.

For the next 3 hours, I decided what hasn’t been worn in over a year was NOT going to be. Piles of clothes – jeez, a couple with price tags STILL, bags of shoes – several with little NO WEAR, even some purses!  It FEELS so good to CLEAR OUT.  Very gratifying.  And, to boot these items were donated to people who can now appreciate them like I once did.

I’d like to keep this “project” from happening again by keeping “up” on it throughout the year!  How often do YOU clean out your closet?
