TV’s Best Bets…

Kevin

I’ve always been a fan of old school mystery/detective novels and movies. One of my favorites is 1941’s The Maltese Falcon with Humphry Bogart. Based on the Dashiell Hammett novel of the same name. Bogart played Sam Spade, a hard boiled private detective.

In the new AMC+ series Monsieur Spade, Clive Owen takes on the roll. It’s set in France 20 years after the famous Maltese Falcon case in the early 60’s. Spade made a promise to take care of a girl after her mother dies. He’s not trying to work too much but gets pulled into a case after nuns are murdered.

The cast is really good and I’m about halfway through the series. The complete season was released and I’m loving it. So, if you like these kinds of stories and you have a show hole to fill, I suggest you check out Monsieur Spade. It’s a really good binge watch so far.

Road Trip Anyone?

Kevin…

We were talking about road trips the other day when we got back from Columbia. Remembering the good ones and the not so good ones. Sometimes the bad ones can also be the good ones. For instance, when I was in my 20’s a friend and I did a spring break trip from Atlanta to Daytona. Another friend was supposed to drive but he backed out at the last minute, so I drove.

I had a ’70 firebird with no muffler and a smashed windshield, but that didn’t stop us. It was Daytona or bust! The drive down was a little dizzying from looking through the spiderwebbed windshield , but we had bags of Doritos, some bread and ham and a ZZ Top greatest hits cassette.

We got to Daytona and you could actually drive on the beach there. We cruised up and down and irritated everybody, including the police with my no muffler sound. We looked very suspicious and got pulled over multiple times. Never got a ticket though.

We stayed for a few days until we ran out of money. Our ham sandwiches got sand in them and turned into sand sandwiches. Our Doritos had big roaches in the bags. We ate them anyway. The chips, not the roaches. It was our only food. We survived.

it’s funny how as you get older you remember things differently. Blocking out the bad stuff and remembering just the good stuff. I look back at that road trip and remember it as one of the most fun trips I ever took. Eventually that Firebird died on me. I loved that car. I loved that road trip too. Maybe this summer I’ll load up the wife and kids and make some more memories in Daytona. If I do though, I’ll have a better ride and some better food.

Leave a comment and tell us about your memorable road trip.

Company Retreats

Blog by: Chris Louzader

Look at the faces in this photo … don’t they look like they’re MUCH smarter and that they’ve just had a GREAT time? You’re right … we did! Our first annual Zimmer Programming Meeting! My car of four road tripped to Columbia, Jefferson City crew traveled over as well. How fun to have a melding of the minds of some of THE BEST on air talents in the business!

We learned through several informative presentations and got so many innovative ideas. But, the team bonding games were THE BEST. It was really fun to get to know co-workers so much better … people I love on the air already and have for years! We are smarter (duh) and now have much stronger relationships and the collaborations within the organization have begun. We had a break from our daily routines … we are more focused with renewed energy to deliver the best radio show to the BEST listeners here at 98.7 The Dove! In a day when not a lot of companies do this sort of thing, it sure makes me grateful for Zimmer Communications, a stellar family owned company.

I CAN’T DRIVE 55!

Blog by:  Chris Louzader

Hi … My name is Chris!  (Hi Chris) I am a speed-o-holic!  There I said it, I’ll admit I have a lead foot.  I’m AM working on this issue in the new year of 2024.  Do I set out to do this unlawful act on the daily … I don’t.  I feel restricted at times like I need greater freedom on the road.  There might be a little thrill or dare I say excitement as I hear Sammy Hagar’s I CAN’T DRIVE 55 playing in my hand and knowing with all certainty that I could smoke Danica Patrick OFF the road.   I’m working on it so much that I’m using my cruise control regularly to control my lead foot.  Am I perfect and haven’t gone over the speed limit lately, definitely not.  The last time I was “stopped” by the reds & blues, I told the officer I was an idiot and not paying attention.  I told him I wasn’t going to feed a “a line of excuses.”  With that most recent warning, I really need to try to put Mr. Sammy’s song out of my head.  Signed, Speed-o-holic,  Chris

Did the Ground Hog Get it Right?

Kevin…

The groundhog (and the Snoop Hog) both predicted an early spring. Well, if the recent weather we’ve been having is any indication, spring has sprung. I mean, 70’s in February? I’m not complaining. I could handle this kind of weather year round.

The birds and squirrels are a little confused. The bees are probably gearing up. Even my wife is ready to take the cover off the Howard pool and open it up for the season. It might be a little early. Hopefully it won’t be long but I have a feeling we’ll see another cold spell or two. The official start of spring is on March 19th but I predict my wife Kelly will have the backyard pool up and running a little earlier than that. I’m looking forward to it. What are you looking forward to this spring?

Why is Spring Teasing Us?

Do you see it, it’s the elusive bright sun with temps to match!  I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about ditching winter behind. Nature’s landscape slowly awakens, teasing hints of vibrant colors amidst the lingering chill.  I even saw some buds on some trees!  The sun, shy at first, peeks through the clouds with beautiful warmth, coaxing dormant life to emerge.  Birds chirping are not far behind!  Spring, teasing us as it beckons us outside not to remember the cold winter weather!  This Spring Tease has made for so many extra walks recently … beautiful bike rides along with much easier games of mini golf … and the fun of pickle ball on outdoor courts.  Please don’t just be a tease Mother Nature.  We are ready!  RIGHT?!?

How many shows are too many shows?

Blog by Chris Louzader

Is there such a thing as juggling too many shows?  Ha!  Does this happen to you? Just recently, I plowed through every season of HOUSE OF CARDS and followed that up with BEEF. Just this week, I finished FARGO as well as WELCOME TO CHIPPENDALES.  Just YESTERDAY I comitted to TULSA KING with Sylvester Stallone. I’m excited that ABBOTT ELEMENTARY and CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM are starting their seasons this week post Hollywood strike.  All the while the Road to the Oscars is still in full force and I’m seeing movies galore.  I can’t stop there … I have BILLIONS on deck. Plus, I really want to see the documentary THE GREATEST NIGHT IN POP.  Am I insane? Are you?  Or, is it just great escapism? How many shows is too many shows?
