Ryan Castro, Karol G, & More: What’s Your Favorite New Latin Music Release? Vote!

This week, our New Music Latin roundup — a compilation of the best new Latin songs, albums, and videos recommended by Billboard Latin and Billboard Español editors — is powered by new music from Residente, Ryan Castro, and Myriam Hernandez, to name a few.

This week’s list includes Ryan Castro and Peso Pluma’s first collaborative effort called “QUEMA,” produced by SOG. The irresistible old-school perreo track is signature Castro, who has a knack for delivering hooky songs and finds the corridos singer returning to urbano following “La Bebe Remix,” his hit song with Yng Lvcas, which has now spent 16 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. “QUEMA” is part of Castro’s upcoming studio album, El Cantante del Ghetto.

Speaking of forthcoming sets, Spanish singer and rapper Rels B also dropped a number from his future album, Afrolova, set for a July 21 release. The track, called “Un Rodeoooo” is a sensual Afrobeats cut with bachata undertones that accompany lyrics about meeting and falling for a beautiful girl at a party. “My producers are very connected with this culture, and we’ve traveled to Nigeria to work with producers there as well. It’s a project that I believe will mark a before-and-after for the Afrobeats genre,” the Spanish artist and rapper, a former Billboard Latin Artist on the Rise, previously said to Billboard of the overall production.

Meanwhile, Residente returned with a nearly 10-minute diss track called “Bajo y Batéria,” where with he testifies to his unmatched lyrical mastery, spitting verses like, “Ya nadie en el género urbano sonríe conmigo que sus dientes me los puse de collar,” this time challenging fellow Puerto Rican rapper Cosculluela.

Other new releases included in the weekly fan poll are: Karol G’s “S91;” Duki, Khea, and Bizarrap’s “Remember Me;” and Nathy Peluso’s “Salvaje,” to name a few.

Last week, C. Tangana’s “Oliveira Dos Cen Años” won the reader poll with nearly 90 percent of the votes. Who should win this week? Vote below!

Trippie Redd fans just keep on eating. The Billboard 200-topping rapper is set to release A Love Letter To You 5, his new studio album, on August 4. A Love Letter To You 5 is the second full-length release of the year for Trippie Redd. The Sky Morales-featuring “Took My Breath Away,” which Trippie released last month (June 16), is set to appear on the tracklist for the new record. In January, the rapper surprised fans with Mansion Musik, a sprawling 27-track mixtape. The project debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, his seventh consecutive top five debut, and featured collaborations with Travis Scott, Rylo Rodriguez, Future, Lil Baby, Ski Mask the Slump God, and more. Trippie later revealed that he was forced the rush-release the project because all of the tracks were being “held for ransom” by unidentified hackers.

Trippie Redd has landed nine titles on the Billboard 200, seven of which reached the top five dating back to 2018’s Life’s A Trip. He has also sent four projects to No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. On the Billboard Hot 100, the rapper has earned 35 entries, reaching as high as No. 11 with 2021’s “Miss the Rage” (with Playboi Carti). Recently, Spotify named Trippie Redd as one of the 50 most-streamed rappers in the platform’s history.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 7:00 p.m. Friday for areas along and north of I-44 and along and west of Highway 65, including the city of Springfield.

A strong storm complex will move into the Ozarks by early Friday evening, and it will be capable of producing damaging winds, large hail and localized flash flooding.

The National Weather Service says wind gusts up to 80 miles per hour will be possible, as well as quarter size hail.

Areas west of Springfield from I-49 to Monett and Stockton are under a level three “enhanced risk” for severe weather, while the rest of the Ozarks is under a level two “slight risk.”

Forecasters say the tornado threat is very low, with damaging winds being the biggest threat.

Widespread rainfall totals of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible through Friday night, with localized amounts of two to four inches possible under heavier storms.

Areas that have received recent significant rainfall may be more vulnerable to flash flooding.

Billie Eilish, Post Malone, Jung Kook x Latto & More: What’s Your Favorite New Music Release of the Week? Vote!

Billie Eilish released an emotional song for the Barbie soundtrack, Post Malone returned with another single from his self-titled album and BTS’ Jung Kook made a solo splash alongside Latto for this week’s new music Friday.

Related

Eilish goes melancholic for her new song “What Was I Made For?” for Greta Gerwig’s upcoming blockbuster movie. The 23-year-old ponders her identity and reason for existence, much like Margot Robbie’s Barbie does in the movie. (“Takin’ a drive, I was an ideal/ Looked so alive, turns out I’m not real/ Just somethin’ you paid for/ What was I made for?”) Should the track come up during the film, it’s bound to get dolls everywhere a little teary eyed.

Malone continues to roll out the singles for his upcoming LP Austin, the latest offering being “Overdrive.” The track, which receives the dynamic addition of a 14-piece string orchestra, highlights the loneliness he feels while hoping he can revive a relationship past its prime.

Jung Kook was not talking about the seven members of BTS in new track “Seven” — instead, the vocalist was referring to the seven days a week he’ll be loving (or “f–kin’,” depending on which version you play) the object of his affections. Latto slots in nicely into the retro-leaning track with her own cheeky flirtations based around the calendar.

Lil Tjay, Karol G, Coco Jones with Justin Timberlake, and Troye Sivan also return with new tunes this week. With so many to choose from, we want to know: Which release is your favorite? Vote in our poll below.

Demi Lovato Says a Collaboration With Kelly Clarkson Is a ‘High Possibility’: ‘We Just Have to Find the Right Song’

Demi Lovato has one major collaboration on her bucket list. In a Friday (July 14) interview with Andy Cohen for his SiriusXM show, the “29” singer revealed that Kelly Clarkson is on her dream list and noted that the pair have talked about working on a song together sometime in the future.

“I’ve never worked with Kelly Clarkson, and I love her so much and I grew up idolizing her,” the singer told Cohen. Lovato idolized the American Idol alumn so much that “my first email was littlekelly@yahoo.com with some numbers. I won’t tell you which ones.”

Lovato asserted that working with Clarkson is a “life goal” of theirs, but the song in question would have to be perfect. “We just have to find the right song. We’ve definitely talked about it in the past, so it’s like not in the works, but it’s a high possibility. It’s just like finding the right song that the both of us can belt on would be dope,” they said.

In the meantime, the former Disney Channel star will be releasing REVAMPED, collection of her previous hits reimagined as rock music. “Breathing new life into the songs that played such a huge role in my career has allowed me to feel so much closer to my music than ever before. I can’t wait for you to hear REVAMPED,” Lovato announced on Friday.

She continued, “With REVAMPED, I wanted to pay homage to the songs that resonated the most with fans and played a big role in my career by breathing an exciting new life into them. Creating this project has been incredibly fun and allowed me to express my passion for rock music in a new way, and I feel so much closer to my older music because of it. I can’t wait for everyone to hear more!”

REVAMPED — which will include “Sorry Not Sorry (Rock Version),” “Heart Attack (Rock Version)” and “Cool for the Summer (Rock Version)” — will arrive on Sept. 15.

The 23 Best Latin Songs of 2023 So Far: Staff Picks

An unprecedented avalanche of Latin songs was released in the first six months of 2023, underscoring the music’s booming popularity at a global scale, the speed of which is outpacing every other genre. While the year kicked off with Bad Bunny still entrenched as Latin music’s top hitmaker, things quickly evolved to bring other genres into the fray — most notably Mexican music, which is currently the dominating Latin presence on the Hot 100 and which even fused with Bad Bunny in the Grupo Frontera/Bad Bunny hit “un X100to.”

The result is an eclectic mix of 23 songs that span a wide array of genres. Música urbana continues to beat, but so does tropical, Mexican and, refreshingly, an increasing dose of pop and singer/songwriter driven fare. The versatility underscores and increasingly vast and eclectic Latin music fan base that is ready and willing to consume all styles of music. Predictably, several of the songs on the list fall under the regional Mexican, or música mexicana label, whose vast umbrella covers from corridos to romantic cumbias on this list.

By the same token, there are songs from icons like Juanes and Marc Anthony, who embrace their roots in rock and salsa, respectively. But there are also a slew of newcomers like Young Mike and María Becerra, who have demonstrated time and again that they are willing to push boundaries in their search for distinctive sounds. Although chart position was a consideration, our choices were guided by many factors, most importantly, memorable lyrics and standout melodies.

Enjoy!

From Bad Bunny’s “Where She Goes” to Yahritza y Su Esencia and Grupo Frontera’s first collaborative effort in “Frágil,” see the list in alphabetical order by artist name, below.
