Jennifer Lawrence Addresses Rumors Liam Hemsworth Cheated on Miley Cyrus With Her

Jennifer Lawrence may have had a short-lived romance with Liam Hemsworth in The Hunger Games, but offscreen, she wasn’t playing any games. In her Monday (June 26) appearance on Watch What Happens Live, the No Hard Feelings star finally addressed speculation that she and Hemsworth hooked up while the actor was still in a relationship with Miley Cyrus.

Playing a round of “Plead the Fifth” on the talk show, host Andy Cohen cut right to the chase by asking Lawrence whether there was any weight to rumors that Cyrus subtly shaded her earlier this year by sporting a figure-hugging gold dress, similar to one worn by the actress at a Hunger Games red carpet premiere in 2012, in the “Flowers” music video. Some fans took the look as Cyrus calling out Lawrence for having a fling with the singer’s now ex-husband.

Suffice to say, Lawrence did not plead the fifth, instead eagerly cutting off Cohen before he’d even finished the question to respond.

“Not true,” she said, according to Entertainment Tonight. “I would love to [respond], it’s not true. Total rumor.”

The Don’t Look Up alum previously insinuated that she and Hemsworth had locked lips behind the scenes, which some fans took at the time as “proof” the two costars had an affair. But on Monday night, Lawrence insisted to Cohen that there was no overlap between their kiss and Hemsworth’s on again, off again romance with Cyrus.

“I mean, we all know that me and Liam, like, kissed one time,” said Lawrence, who’s now married and shares a son with art gallery director Cooke Maroney. “But it was years after they broke up.”

“So I just assume that was like a coincidence,” she added of Cyrus’ gold dress.

But while the gold dress may have been just that — a gold dress — there is a pretty compelling case to be made that Cyrus was shading Hemsworth with “Flowers.” For instance, the Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper was released not so subtly on the Last Song star’s 33rd birthday.

Anyway, during her appearance on WWHL, Lawrence also spoke about another female pop star: her friend Adele. When asked by fans calling in to the show to rate how drunk she was when she and the “Easy on Me” vocalist famously went out together in 2019 to Pieces, a gay bar in New York City, she replied: “10 out of 10 hammered.”

Dave and Central Cee Racing to Fourth Week at U.K. No. 1 With ‘Sprinter’

Barring any unforeseen hurdles, Dave and Central Cee’s “Sprinter” (Live Yours/Neighbourhood) is bolting to a fourth week atop the U.K. chart.

The record-breaking British hip-hop collaboration soaked up another 9 million streams last week, for a third consecutive cycle at the top. Based on sales and streaming data for the first half of the latest frame, the Official Charts Company reports, “Sprinter” should make it a full month at the summit.

If it continues to outpace J Hus and Drake’s “Who Told You” (currently No. 2), Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding’s “Miracle” (No. 3), and the rest of contenders, “Sprinter” will equal the four-week run of Dave’s longest-reigning single, 2022’s “Starlight”.

There’s movement on the chart blast for Dundee, Scotland DJ Hannah Laing and newcomer RoRo as “Good Love” (WUGD) looks set to rise in the top 10, up 11-8.

British rap stars Stormzy and Fredo should secure the highest debut of the week, with “Toxic Trait” (Def Jam), their first collaboration. It’s new at No. 10 on the chart blast.

It’s peak summer in the U.K., sun is (mostly) out, and Taylor Swift is on the climb with the seasonal gift “Cruel Summer” (EMI). The Lover cut is up to No. 13 on the Official Chart Update, and should eclipse the No. 27 best following its release in 2019.

Also on the way up is Dua Lipa’s “Dance The Night” (Warner Records) lifted from the original soundtrack of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie film. It’s shuffling just outside the top 10, up 16-14, for what would be a chart high.

All will be revealed when the Official U.K. Singles Chart is published this Friday, June 30.

Maisie Peters’ ‘The Good Witch’ Rides to U.K. Chart Lead

Maisie PetersThe Good Witch (Atlantic/Gingerbread Man) is working its magic on the United Kingdom.

The English pop singer and songwriter’s sophomore set leads the midweek chart, ahead of Harry StylesHarry’s House (via Columbia up 5-2) and Tom Grennan’s What Ifs & Maybes (down 1-3 via Insanity), respectively.

The Good Witch is the followup to Peters’ 2021 debut You Signed Up For This, which peaked at No. 2 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart. A chart crown would cap a huge half-year for Peters, who supported Ed Sheeran for stadium shows across Australia and New Zealand earlier in 2023.

Also set for high entries this week are Young Thug’s Business Is Business (300 Entertainment), which could become his second top 10 appearance, at No. 9; and Kelly Clarkson’s Chemistry (Atlantic), which could net the U.S. singing star her sixth U.K. top 10, at No. 10.

The “Glastonbury effect” can be seen up and down the Official Chart Update.

Scottish singer and songwriter Lewis Capaldi is one of the beneficiaries of a high-profile slot at Glastonbury Festival last weekend, which powers his albums Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent (up 16-4 via EMI) and debut Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent (up 34-12) on the midweek tally.

Elton John is winding up his touring career in the coming weeks, and enjoyed a boisterous send-off at Glastonbury. Now, his hits compilation Diamonds (Mercury/UMC) is on track to appear in the top 5 again, up 15-5.

Celebrated British alternative rock act Arctic Monkeys are hanging high on the midweek chart, with AM (No. 6), Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not (No. 20) and Favourite Worst Nightmare (No. 38) — all via Domino Recordings — on the bounce following their Friday night performance at the Eavis’ famous fest.

Other Glastonbury performers enjoying a post-event albums blitz include Foo Fighters (But Here We Are at No. 16 via Columbia and The Essential Foo Fighters at No. 28 via Sony Music CG), Lana Del Rey (Born To Die at No. 36 via Polydor) and Guns N’ Roses (Greatest Hits at No. 37 via Geffen).

Finally, Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour hasn’t yet reached the U.K., but anticipation is causing her hit albums to spike. According to the Official Charts Company, former leaders Midnights (No. 7), 1989 (No. 11), Lover (No. 14), Reputation (No. 22) and Folklore (No. 31), all via EMI, are on the climb.

All will be revealed when the Official U.K. Albums Chart is published Friday, June 30.

‘Life of Pi’ Composer Mychael Danna Receives Lifetime Achievement Award at SoundTrack_Cologne in Germany

Composer Mychael Danna received a lifetime achievement award at the SoundTrack_Cologne, which was held at the Comedia Theater in Cologne, Germany, on Friday. Previous recipients of the award include Rachel Portman, Bruce Broughton, Cliff Martinez and Michael Nyman.

Danna is best known for his score for Life of Pi, for which he won an Oscar in 2013 for best original score. He won a Primetime Emmy later that same year for outstanding music composition for a miniseries, movie or a special (original dramatic score) for the miniseries World Without End.

Related

Journalist Daniel Kothenschulte presented the award to Danna, noting, “Mychael Danna came to film music [in 1987] when that changed decisively. We can also say that he has made a decisive contribution to the expansion of the sound language of cinema since the mid-1980s.”

He added: “Danna’s music knows no hierarchies … which makes it impossible to predict where his work will go after more than 80 scores.”

The Canadian-born composer is the older brother of composer Jeff Danna. The two have collaborated on 16 scores for film and television, including Lakeview Terrace, The Breadwinner, The Addams Family (2019) and its 2021 sequel and Onward.

Mychael Danna’s other collaborators on scores include Rob Simonsen ((500 Days) of Summer and Harry Gregson-Williams (Return to Space).

Danna has amassed seven Primetime Emmy nods, two Oscar nods and two Grammy nods. His other films include On the Basis of SexCapote and Moneyball.

This was the 20th edition of SoundTrack_Cologne. During the event, the WDR Funkhausorchestra played pieces by such film composers as Danna, Portman, Natalie Holt and Carlos Rafael Rivera.
