Fans Are Freaking Out Over BLACKPINK’s Lisa & BTS’ V Posing for Pics Together in Cannes

K-pop stars have officially taken over Cannes. Just hours after BLACKPINK‘s Jennie made her debut at the Cannes Film Festival, her fellow groupmate Lisa got fans talking after posing for pictures with V of BTS.

On Monday night, Celine’s artistic director Heidi Slimane brought together the K-pop stars for a dinner party hosted at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cannes. Lisa and V — who are both ambassadors for the French luxury brand — were in attendance at the event and posed alongside each other for a quick photo. The BLACKPINK rapper dazzled in a sequined, pinstriped suit jacket and matching trouser, while the BTS vocalist donned a black jacket with a sequin bow and black trousers.

Fans, naturally, were excited to see the two K-pop idols together in the same space. One fan wrote on Twitter, “MY TWO FAVS BOTH STUNNING,” while another pondered “how can [it] be possible two people being so beautiful and unique.”

A third Twitter user hilariously commented, “lisa with her brother in law” — a timely comment, considering that Jennie and V are currently the subject of dating rumors and set the Internet ablaze last week when fans believed they were spotted holding hands with each other while out for an evening stroll in Paris. (Representatives for Jennie and V did not respond to Billboard‘s request for comment at the time, and it was never confirmed to be the K-pop stars.)

As for the rest of the of the BLACKPINK members, Rosé made her Cannes debut last week on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the guys of BTS are currently working on the solo endeavors or completing military service.

Beyoncé’s Dad Wants Destiny’s Child to Reunite for ‘One Last Album’

Baby, can you handle this? It’s been 17 years since Destiny’s Child went on hiatus, but if Mathew Knowles had his way, he’d be all for the pioneering girl group getting back together.

“It’s a decision that the ladies would have to make,” Beyoncé‘s father said to Entertainment Tonight on Monday (May 23). “And I would certainly, certainly support that decision as I still manage Destiny’s Child. I would love to see that as well.”

Related

Of course, the trio have reunited multiple times since the release of their 2004 album Destiny Fulfilled and 2005 greatest hits compilation #1s, including an unforgettable appearance during Beyoncé’s headlining Coachella set in 2018. Over the years, they’ve also teamed up for 2013’s “You Changed” off Kelly Rowland‘s Talk a Good Game and Michelle Williams‘ 2014 gospel single “Say Yes” as well as appearances in the visual album for Bey’s 2015 self-titled studio set Beyoncé.

“I think the fans will be just overjoyed, overwhelmed,” the elder Knowles continued. “And hopefully they do one last time in their career. Hopefully they give us one last album. Who knows? You never know. You never say it can’t happen. Because this is entertainment. A lot of things can happen.”

Of course, any chance for an official reunion would have to wait, considering Beyoncé just kicked off her electric Renaissance World Tour in Stockholm, Sweden earlier this month — though considering she’s included Destiny’s Child single “Cater 2 U” on the setlist, it wouldn’t be completely outside the realm of possibility for Michelle and Kelly to make a surprise appearance somewhere along the tour route to perform the slow jam with their bestie and bandmate.

Joe Jonas Shares a Taylor Swift Relationship Update, 15 Years After Their Breakup

Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas’ relationship was chronicled in several personal songs featured on Swift’s 2008 sophomore album Fearless. In the time since, the two have managed to move on — but what is the true status of their relationship now?

The Jonas Brothers singer gave curious Swifties an update on the Monday episode of Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.

“I’m cool with Taylor,” Jonas told Shepard. “We’re cool.” He added of her very loyal fanbase: “I hope to think they like me … No one f—s with the Swifties, you know?”

Jonas and Swift dated between July and October of 2008; the pair’s relationship infamously ended when the Disney Channel alum broke up with his ex through a brief phone call — a move Swift publicly shaded during a 2008 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“When I find that person that is right for me he’ll be wonderful and when I look at that person, I’m not even gonna be able to remember the boy who broke up with me over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18,” she told the talk-show host at the time.

Fans can now hear Swift’s perspective on the breakup in Fearless‘ “Forever & Always,” which she confirmed was about Jonas following their split, but he insists their drama from then is a relic of the past. “It’s been many, many years removed,” he told Shepard.

Kim Kardashian Says She Couldn’t ‘Force Her Beliefs’ on Kanye West

Kim Kardashian is candidly reflecting on her divorce from Kanye West.

The SKIMS founder joined Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast this week, where she revealed that her different beliefs from the controversial rapper proved to be difficult. “You can’t force your beliefs and project that on someone that thinks something totally different,” she told the host of her ex-husband, who has been a vocal supporter of people like former President Donald Trump and even Adolf Hitler. “It’s OK to realize that this life is so short, and you should go and find the people that do align with what you really believe in.”

While she called her six-year marriage to Ye “beautiful” rather than a “failure,” she shared that she couldn’t “help” someone who doesn’t want to be helped. “You can’t really force things upon other people,” she explained. “You can’t expect them to be where you’re at [and] at your level.”

Kardashian filed for divorce from West in February 2021 after six years of marriage. Both sides initially said that the split would be amicable, but the relationship between the two superstars has turned increasingly tense in the two years since, especially amid Kardashian’s romance with comedian Pete Davidson in 2022.

“I think I’ll always be a hopeless romantic and always want to be in love and definitely love sharing my life with someone and love creating a life with someone,” Kardashian told Shetty, noting that she hasn’t dated anyone since Davidson.

2023 MTV Video Music Awards Are Headed Back to New Jersey

The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards will be held at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on Tuesday, Sept. 12. It will mark the second year in a row – and the third time in the past five years – that the show has been held at that venue.

Related

This will be the 40th year for the VMAs, which originated as an irreverent, younger-skewing alternative to the Grammy Awards. The VMAs are now as old as the Grammys were in 1998, the year that a performance artist who went by the name Soy Bomb crashed Bob Dylan’s show-capping performance of “Love Sick.”

This will be the first time the show has been held at any one venue two years in a row since 2010-11, when it came from the Nokia Theatre (now Microsoft Theater) in Los Angeles.

This will be the sixth consecutive year that the VMAs has been based on the East Coast. That’s the longest that the traditionally bicoastal show has come from either coast since it was based in Los Angeles seven years in a row from 1987 to 1993. (The 1986 show aired from both coasts – The Palladium in New York and the Universal Amphitheatre in L.A.)

“We’re thrilled to be returning to the Prudential Center in Newark for this year’s VMAs!” Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming & events, Paramount and chief content officer, music, Paramount+, said in a statement. “Celebrating one of our biggest nights in music with the Garden State’s incredible fans has been our goal since last year’s highly successful event.”

“The return of the VMAs to the Prudential Center testifies to New Jersey’s enduring standing as a premier venue for large-scale entertainment events,” added the state’s governor, Phil Murphy. “As the home of some of the most internationally renowned names in the music industry, New Jersey is proud to once again partner with Paramount to showcase an array of exciting performances to a global audience.”

Taylor Swift made history at last year’s VMAs, becoming the first artist to win video of the year three times. She won for “All Too Well: The Short Film,” having previously won for “Bad Blood” (with Kendrick Lamar) and “You Need to Calm Down.”

Last year’s show was co-hosted by Jack Harlow, LL Cool J and Nicki Minaj. Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco hosted the show in 2019, its first year at Prudential Center. The show hasn’t had a repeat host since Russell Brand fronted the show in 2008-09.

The VMAs will air across MTV’s global footprint of linear and digital platforms in more than 150 countries and territories, with a potential reach of more than 319 million households, according to MTV’s numbers-crunchers.

Ford Decides to Include AM Radio in all 2024 Model Vehicles

Ford Motor Company is reversing a decision to scrap AM radio stations from its new line of 2024 vehicles.

The Associated Press reports CEO Jim Farley, who posted the decision on social media Tuesday, says the company has decided to include AM radio on all 2024 Ford and Lincoln vehicles.

Farley also promised to offer a software update for owners of Ford’s EV’s without AM broadcast capability.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers last week introduced a bill in Congress, the
“AM for Every Vehicle Act,” calling on the National Transportation Safety Board to require AM in new vehicles, with no additional cost to the consumer.

Massachusetts Democratic Senator Edward Markey, who was a sponsor of the legislation, says eight of 20 major automobile makers, including Ford, Tesla, and BMW had pulled AM radio from new vehicles.

Western Missouri Republican Congressman Mark Alford spoke about the importance of AM radio stations and their role in informing the public during emergencies, especially in rural areas, on the floor of the U.S. House last week.

Alford named KWTO as an example in his speech.

Eslabon Armado & Peso Pluma’s ‘Ella Baila Sola’ Dances Into No. 1 Spot on Regional Mexican Airplay

Following a four-fold win across Billboard charts, Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma’s “Ella Baila Sola” finds the No. 1 spot on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart as it jumps 2-1 to lead the May 27-dated ranking. The single ousts Los Angeles Azules’ “Tú y Tú,” with Cazzu and Santa Fe Klan, after the latter’s one-week command.

“Ella Baila Sola’s” new win trails successes on four other charts, starting with the multi-metric Hot Latin Songs chart, where the song holds strong at No. 1 in its seventh straight week after it ascended 2-1 on the chart dated April 15. The song also extends to its nine-week reign on Latin Streaming Songs and its third-week coronation on the Billboard Global 200 ranking. Plus, “Ella Baila” ruled Latin Digital Song Sales for three weeks.

According to Luminate, “Ella Baila” hits No. 1 on Regional Mexican Airplay with 7.3 million in audience impressions, a 2% gain, earned in the U.S. in the week ending May 18.

Peso Pluma claims his first Regional Mexican Airplay No. 1 with his first chart visit, as he reached the chart (dated May 6) when “Ella” debuted at No. 7. He has also placed a No. 19 high with “Chanel” with Becky G.

Eslabon Armado, meanwhile, captures its second Regional Mexican champ, after the one-week coronation with “Te Encontré,” with Ulices Chaidez, in June 2021.

Beyond its Regional Mexican Airplay coronation, “Ella” takes home the Greatest Gainer/Airplay trophy on Hot Latin Songs thanks to its audience gain across regional Mexican stations. Further, despite a 1% dip in streams during the tracking week, the song earned 32 million official on-demand streams in the U.S., enough to hold the No. 1 place on Latin Streaming Songs, while falls 2-3 on the overall Streaming Songs list.

“Ella” also makes progress on Latin Airplay where it pushes from No. 7 to its No. 4 high. Meanwhile, it decreases 4-5 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Brandy Clark Mines Her Own Stories on Brandi Carlile-Produced, Eponymous Album: ‘There’s a Whole Palette of Colors Here’

At the 2021 Grammy Awards, much-heralded Nashville songwriter Brandy Clark and Americana stalwart Brandi Carlile were nominated for their collaboration “Same Devil.” Though the duet didn’t cinch a win that year for the two singer-songwriters (Clark has 10 Grammy nods to date, while Carlile has nine wins), it did provide the genesis for Clark’s self-titled album, which released Friday (May 19).

“She leaned over to me and said, ‘Hey buddy, I’d love to produce a whole record on you.’ I was really taken aback and flattered,” Clark tells Billboard, noting the shared geographical roots between the two Washington state natives. “She said, ‘I like to think things through and I see it as your return to the Northwest.’”

Clark, who now splits her time between California and Nashville, has formed a reputation as one of Nashville’s most sought-after writers, one capable of penning songs that are both commercial and clever, including “Better Dig Two” (The Band Perry), the CMA song of the year-winning “Follow Your Arrow” (Kacey Musgraves) and the Grammy-nominated songs “Mama’s Broken Heart” (Miranda Lambert) and “Beautiful Noise” (Brandi Carlile/Alicia Keys).

In 2013, Clark issued her own debut album, the sterling 12 Stories, followed by 2016’s Big Day in a Small Town and 2020’s Your Life is a Record. The new album pairs the twin pillars of Clark’s songwriting muscle (and intimate vocal talents), with Carlile’s skills as a collaborator and producer. Carlile previously co-produced the Tanya Tucker project While I’m Livin’, which brought Tucker her first two Grammy wins in her decades-long career.

“She pushed me a lot. I’ve never been as challenged by a producer as I was by her,” Clark says, noting Carlile’s approach to narrowing down the songs that ultimately make up the album.

“I gave her like 18-24 songs and asked her to pick about a dozen. I liked them all, but I was surprised by some of her choices. She told me, ‘I chose the songs that I thought sounded like you wrote them in your bedroom, and not in the writing room.’ And that was a really good reminder for me, because when we all got into music it wasn’t because we needed it to be perfect; it was because it moved us.”

On this carefully constructed, eponymous project — Clark’s fourth album — she turns her detailed style of songcraft on her own stories, relying less on character sketches and instead excavating her own stories, familial influences and even emotional hesitancies as source material.

“Dear Insecurity,” is a musical letter to the self-critical hauntings, written with Michael Pollack (Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers”). “I knew from day one that I wanted that song to be on this record,” Clark says. “When we went into the studio, it was also on Brandy’s list. She suggested a duet and I instantly loved the idea.”

Carlile had a list of artists she had thought about bringing onto the record — names including Ed Sheeran and Lucinda Williams. But when Carlile sang on the scratch vocal, Clark was so moved by the sound of their intertwined voices across the vulnerable lyric that she decided to keep the duet with Carlile.

“We do share some similar insecurities, and that’s probably why it comes off the way it does. To me, it’s a great song, but when you add her to it, it makes it exponentially something else, just magic,” Clark says.

Carlile’s own longtime collaborators, Lucius, offer otherworldly vocals on the bluesy groove of “All Over Again” and are featured on “Tell Her You Don’t Love Her.”

“I don’t go to a ton of shows — I should go to more — but the last time I went to a show it was one of theirs,” Clark says. “When I mentioned that I love their music, Brandi was like, ‘They have to be on this record.’ She got them and her brother Jay [Carlile] to sing and give it that choir thing [on “All Over Again”]. I don’t know how we’re gonna pull it off live, because we don’t have that many voices onstage, but we’ll figure it out.”

“She Smoked in the House,” which was written about Clark’s late grandmother, vividly recounts a woman who unabashedly lit up cigs in the house and cut the mold off of cantaloupe and cheese.

“I used to write a lot in the car. I would take drives out to Leiper’s Fork in Nashville when I was blocked and songs would come to me. That song came when I was driving around and really on a Merle Haggard kick,” Clark says. “I was missing my grandparents and he always takes me back to that — I got stuck on ‘Are the Good Times Really Over’ for weeks — that would be the only thing I would listen to.”

Carlile started out attempting to craft “a big wide sweep about her generation,” writing numerous verses, though not enough that connected with her emotionally. “I kept thinking, ‘What’s wrong with this song?’ Then I remembered something Mark Sanders — who is a fantastic writer — told me early in my career. He said, ‘If you want to be general, you must first be specific.’ And honestly, the song was really about my grandma, so once I locked in on that, there weren’t a lot of throwaway lines. I can’t believe the texts that I’ve received from people who say, ‘She cut the mold off of cantaloupe — that’s my grandma, too.’”

A five-day writing retreat in September 2021 with Jimmy Robbins and Jessie Jo Dillon yielded two sonically disparate tracks — the bluesy murder story “Ain’t Enough Rocks” (featuring Derek Trucks), and the tender ballad “Up Above the Clouds.”

The former was written the first night of the retreat, and inspired by a famous scene in the 1994 movie Forrest Gump, where the character Jenny is throwing rocks at the home she once grew up in.

“She says, ‘Sometimes there’s just not enough rocks,’ and Jessie Jo said she had always wanted to write a song about that scene,” Clark says. “Jessie Jo, Jimmy and I have each known different people who were sexual abuse survivors, but it did feel a little weird to me to record it because, fortunately for me, I’m not an abuse survivor. But my way into it is that all of that song is the storyteller, but the last verse is ‘Some crimes don’t deserve a jury or a penitentiary.’ I believe that, so I can get into it from that point of view. I love that this song comes first, and then ‘Buried’ follows it, because the record has a whole palette of colors here.”

“Up Above the Clouds (Cecelia’s Song)” is a tender ballad dedicated to a child battling cancer, the niece of one of Clark’s best friends. “We sent the song to his brother, Cecelia’s dad, and his brother sent me a text about how much that song meant to them,” Clark says. “It was just the work tape, helping him to see the sunshine amongst all these clouds in their lives. It was heavy on my heart and I asked Jessie Jo and Jimmy if we could dedicate that song to her and Jessie Jo said, ‘Why don’t we just call it “Cecelia’s Song?”‘ I was really moved by that.”

Alongside crafting her new album, Clark has seen the long-awaited release of the musical Shucked, the project she and writer/producer Shane McAnally have been crafting for the past decade. At the recent Tony Awards nominations announcement, Shucked picked up nine overall nods, including original score. “I’ve never been involved with something that has taken on the life that this has; it’s been an incredible gift,” Clark says.

She was also a key contributor to Ashley McBryde’s collaborative album Lindeville, which musically tells stories from the different perspectives of the unique characters that reside in the fictional Lindeville (Clark also performed alongside McBryde on the recent ACM Awards). Moving forward, we could see more cinematic-flavored works from Clark.

“I’d love to write all the music for a movie. I’ve also had people approach me about — it’s never panned out — about turning one of my records into a series or a movie. I’d love to do that. I love writing visually, and I think more on a big-project basis even than writing songs and trying to get people to cut them. I did that for so long and I loved it, but now I gravitate towards full projects. I’d love to do music for a dark comedy, something like Raising Arizona. I also think I could do something animated. If I could do anything with musicals and movies, the thing I wished I could have done would be Charlotte’s Web. But [Shucked] has opened doors for me to things I probably can’t even dream.”
