During day three of Billboard Latin Music Week, current cover star Maluma celebrated the occasion with a Superstar Q&A, hosted by Billboard Español deputy editor Sigal Ratner-Arias.
Dressed up in a brown suit and loafers, the artist-turned-businessman spoke of his newly launched label Royalty Records, which has signed its first two artists, in addition to other ventures. Meanwhile, he reveals he already has at least 50 songs for his upcoming album, which he plans to make his best yet.
His best advice for doing so much at once was simple: “Everything in life, you need to have enthusiasm and love.”
He spoke of the importance of launching the label in his country of Colombia, as well as how he scored the label’s first two artists: Abril and Paulina B. As he tells it, both artists caught his heart, with Maluma admitting with a smile, “It’s easy for me to fall in love.”
Below are the five best takeaways from his conversation.
Act on your dreams: “I have achieved a lot with my musical career but now I am building the first steps of an empire… I have always dreamed of helping other artists. If I saw an artist that I liked, I would say, ‘Come, let’s do this together.’ I realized there was a way to commercialize this. I met with my manager and attorney and said, ‘I need some guidance.’ It is very easy to dream and say you want to do so many things but if you don’t know how to do them, it won’t be successful.”
Find yourself first: “We all have some reference when you start a career. For me it was Jutin Timberlake or Marc Anthony, and I’d say, ‘One day I want to sing like them.’ You always feel like you have those benchmarks but it is better to find yourself, your own style. And also, I always say that 80% [of a career] in music is discipline and 20% is talent — and that’s what helped me. That’s what I’m looking for, that [artists I sign] feel happy and free.”
Live for yourself: “Marc Anthony has been a blessing in my life because he gave me advice in the beginning, and that was not happening [otherwise]. When he told me you have to be a little bit selfish sometimes — live your own happiness and your calm — I remember I was doing everything for everyone else and I was tired. When Marc told me, ‘Hey there’s no formula, you just need to be yourself.’ That’s when I was able to do what I wanted to do.”
Put your family first: “I am lucky that in addition to working with me [my dad] is my best friend. In this industry you see that when you start working with your family, well, there are some conflicts of interest and in some ways the relationships have some damage. When I finished my first concert with my first manager, I had no idea about the numbers and then he gave me everything so I could manage it myself and I said, ‘I only know how to sing and make sandwiches.’ And then I told my father, ‘I need you.’ That’s the moment when we started this financial journey together. I said, ‘If you’re going to take care of my business, our relationship as father and son will be affected.’ We had that talk. Now, my father is the CEO and president of my company and everything has been very good so far.”
Let your dreams evolve: “As I grow, my priorities change, and my dreams change a little as well. My first dream will always be music, I’ll never stop doing music until the day I die. But I also felt I should explore other paths, and that’s when we started our first business and that’s the [Royalty by Maluma] collaboration with Macy’s. Also my perfume, and the important business of my mezcal. I believe everything is a matter of being disciplined and organized. I try to meditate [in the morning], have an hour of focusing and planning my day. But it was not like that before, I was in the studio until 4 in the morning and wanting to tour all the time. Now it’s different. I have my routine, my office and I love it. But I always say the music always calls me… going on tour and singing to people is the best thing in the world.”

Kodak Black just made a big difference in a lot of people’s lives. To save a total of 28 families from almost certain eviction, the rapper announced on his Instagram Story that he’d paid off several months worth of their rent to make sure they were each secure in their homes through the end of this year.
“28 Families Was Bout To Get Evicted For Being Behind On Their Rent A Few Months,” Kodak wrote on his story, according to Hip Hop DX. “I Paid What They Owed And Also Paid Their Rents For The Next Few Months So They Good For The Remaining Of The Year.”
Later, the “Super Gremlin” artist again took to his Instagram Story to explain what motivated his recent act of generosity. “I’m A Project Baby,” wrote Kodak, who was raised in Section 8 housing in Florida. “I Do It Fa The Projects!”
“People. Relying. On. Just. Enough. Cash. To survive,” he added.
In a separate Instagram post, it was revealed that Kodak’s act of kindness was facilitated in partnership with the Zachariah McQueen Foundation. Each of the 28 families live in Merry Place Housing Projects in West Palm Beach, Fla.
The “ZEZE” rapper’s list of recent good deeds doesn’t stop there, though. On her story, a friend named Ana revealed that Kodak had surprised another pal with everything they’d requested on their baby registry.
“@KodakBlack really is the most giving thoughtful person,” she wrote, sharing a photo of the musician grinning next to a truck overflowing with Huggies diapers. “Filled the entire back of the pickup truck and pulled up to his baby shower a few days ago.”

Jackson Wang is getting ready to hit the road. On Wednesday (Sept. 28), the GOT7 member announced his plans for a world tour in support of his recently released album, Magic Man.
Wang revealed the details of his 2022-2023 trek via his social media accounts, excitedly writing, “Finally. The 1st time in my life I get to properly tour now. After all this … MAGIC MAN WORLD TOUR 2022-2023 #MAGICMAN is coming. See u there. I promise it’s different.”
The 2022 portion of the Magic Man tour will take place in Asia starting in November, with its first stop in Bangkok, Thailand, on Nov. 26. Come December, the Chinese singer will make two stops in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Singapore on Dec. 17 and Dec. 23 respectively.
In 2023, the 28-year-old will take his tour to London on Jan. 12, and to Paris three days later on Jan. 15. Dubai is also getting a visit, with Wang performing on Feb. 4. The tour poster, which features the singer in a leather jacket, states “and more,” hinting at possible tour dates to come.
Wang released Magic Man, his second solo studio album, on Sept. 9; it debuted at No. 15 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart. The set charted even higher on Billboard‘s Top Album Sales and Top Current Album Sales charts at No. 3.
Speaking with People, Wang explained that Magic Man is “way more extreme than all the stuff that I’ve released in the past. And I think it’s because on this album, I’m in my most raw form that I’ve ever been in my career as a solo artist, just not caring about whoever I was and whatever I had before. And [I] just want to go for being completely me and with no filter.”

Meghan Trainor hopped on the latest TikTok trend on Tuesday (Sept. 27) to dish about her viral trip to an adult shop a few years ago, all set to Nicki Minaj‘s “Super Freaky Girl.”
“One thing about me is that four years ago/ I went in a sex shop/ And got paparazzi’d with my husband/ Named Daryl, the Spy Kids Juni/ And it was embarrassing, huh, huh, huh,” the pop star rapped to the tune of Minaj’s first solo No. 1 hit.
“Now what you think, no it wasn’t/ It wasn’t for us/ I mean, we get pretty freaky/ But not, like, too much/ It was for a friend who was too, too shy/ To get a vibrator and lube/ So I bought it for her,” she continued. Trainor went on to hilariously add that the “sad thing” was the fact that her hubby wore a pair of toe shoes with his Marvin the Martian graphic tee during the much-talked-about excursion.
“Oh no! The world saw/ And it was after a workout/ We didn’t look good, we kinda looked sad/ And it went viral, my mother was pissed/ But it’s OK, my friend had good sex!/ So it was worth it in the end, aha ha,” Trainor concluded the amusingly off-the-cuff story.
Recently, the pop star — who’s currently gearing up for the release of her fifth album Takin’ It Back on Oct. 22 — also used TikTok to laugh about on her onstage make out with Charlie Puth following their performance at the 2016 American Music Awards.

A man from Springfield has been arrested for assault and attempted rape.
Police say Michael Le Huynh is charged with first-degree sodomy or attempted sodomy, second-degree rape, and third-degree attempted domestic assault.
According to a probable cause statement, the victim alleges Le Huynh forcibly removed an IUD birth control implant from her body. When a friend came to her and her children’s aid, he assaulted the victim again and hid her phone.
“It’s the first time I produce a song this way, so much pressure,” said Ovy on the Drums after taking the stage for the Making the Hit Live panel at the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Week.
The Colombian hitmaker was joined by singer-songwriter Blessd onstage on Wednesday (Sept. 28) where the pair created a new song from scratch in front of an audience.
In a span of 30 minutes, the producer and the artist worked together to create a promising reggaeton track, on which Blessd improvised over singing lyrics about heartbreak. While the track — which they broke down as they were making it — was not completed due to the limited time, attendees encouraged the duo to release the song after hearing a teaser that left everyone in that room wanting more.
For 30 years, Billboard Latin Music Week has been the longest running and biggest Latin music industry gathering in the world. It will also dovetail with the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards on Sept. 29 in Miami. The Billboard Latin Music Awards will broadcast live on Telemundo, and will also broadcast simultaneously on the Spanish entertainment cable network, Universo, and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on Telemundo Internacional.
Latin Music Week is taking place from Sept. 26 to Oct. 1 with star-studded panels. Additionally, there is a lineup of events that includes superstar concerts, intimate showcases and new music premieres by Bizarrap, Elena Rose, Camilo and Mariah Angeliq. BRESH will throw the ultimate closing party at Oasis, in Miami’s artistic neighborhood of Wynwood.
Below are three takeaways from the Making the Hit Live panel:
“Medallo” Was Created in 40 Minutes
Ovy: “Blessd called me and he said, I need you, urgently. Are you available? I have an idea that I’d love to start working on now.”
Blessd: “And I told him, I need it to be a hit so get out the violins. The thing with the violins is because every time Ovy adds violins to a song, it becomes No. 1. It happened with ‘Tusa’ and also ‘Medallo.’”
How They Met
Blessd: “Ovy was one of the first to truly become interested in what I was doing. I asked my followers on social media to tag him in my posts and that’s how he found out I existed. At the beginning, it was a friendship. We both like soccer, so there was a click.”
Ovy: “‘Mi Niña’ was the first song that we ever did together. What I liked about him was that he improvised — that really caught my attention. And our chemistry is great. We have a lot of things in common, which was really important when it came to creating music together.”
Blessd on Improvising
“I come battling on the streets so my thing is to improvise. I never sit down to write lyrics. Improvising allows me to feel the music.”
Fugitive Sex Offender on the Loose

Springfield Police are looking for a fugitive sex offender.

Henderson has a scar above his left eye and a skull tattoo with the word “misfits” on his upper right arm. Henderson is 5’9″, 170 pounds wit blonde hair and blue eyes. Police say he has violent tendencies.

Brace yourselves, because Hailey Bieber is sharing all the intimate details of her private life. During her much talked-about appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast that aired Wednesday (Sept. 28), the model revealed bits about her sex life with Justin Bieber — including favorite positions, thoughts on threesomes, turn-ons and more.
The first question Cooper asked the model — who’s been married to the “Peaches” pop star for about four years — was whether the couple preferred to get down and dirty in the morning or night. “More so night,” she replied. “But I do like morning too.”
Then, when asked whether the Biebers have ever brought a third person into their bedroom, Hailey shared that no one’s ever volunteered — not that she and Justin would want to include them anyway. “It doesn’t work for the two of us,” she said of ménages à trois.
“The second you make the decision to do that, there is no going back from that,” she continued. “We work very hard to be in the space that we’re in now, trusting each other. I just don’t think that’s something I would be comfortable with — or him, for that matter.”
Cooper also persuaded Hailey to reveal which sex positions are her and Justin’s go-tos. “I really like doggy style,” she said.
“It’s not like I strictly like this one thing and he strictly likes this other thing,” she added. “It’s always something different.”
And finally, ever wonder what turns one of the world’s biggest pop stars on? Emotional intimacy does it for her husband, according to Hailey. “We could literally just be laying down talking before,” she said. “[Connection] is really important for him. For me, kissing is a big deal.”
But while the details of Justin and Hailey’s alone time are very juicy, it was an entirely different part of the Rhode Skincare founder’s Call Her Daddy interview that set the internet ablaze. For the first time, Hailey opened up about her husband’s high-profile relationship with Selena Gomez, and set the record straight that there was no overlap between the two romances.

Hailey Bieber has made a concerted effort to keep much of her private life with husband Justin Bieber out of the public eye. That has included not answering persistent, probing questions about the timeline and specifics of when they reconnected and began the romance that resulted in their 2018 wedding.
But on Wednesday’s (Sept. 28) episode of Alex Cooper’s Spotify podcast Call Her Daddy, Hailey confronted the longtime rumors that she “stole” her husband from his ex, pop star Selena Gomez, adamantly denying that narrative and shutting down haters once and for all.
“When him or I ever started hooking up or anything of that sort, he was not ever in a relationship. Ever. At any point,” Hailey insisted, noting that she’s never publicly commented on the allegations before. For the record, Cooper did not specifically name Gomez, but the implication was clear.
“It’s not in my character to mess with someone’s relationship … I’m not interested in doing that and I never was … I can say, period, point blank, I was never with him when he was in a relationship with anybody. That’s the end of it,” Hailey stated.
As for the tick-tock of Hailey and Justin rekindling their relationship, getting engaged and married while the singer was also reportedly still spending time with his ex, Hailey said she can understand how it looks from the outside, but that’s not what she experienced. “It was the right thing for them to close that door — they were not in a relationship at that time,” she said, explaining that she respected their long history and knew it “closed a chapter” and was the best thing for Justin so that he could move on
Plus, she said, one of the reasons their marriage is so strong is precisely because Justin was able to get that closure. “It was the most healthy, mature decision that he could have made,” she said. The model added that she would never want to get into a relationship with someone, or get married to them, if she was worried that they still had feelings for an ex.
“I know for a fact that the reason that we were able to get back together is that it was very much completely closed and that is respectful to me,” she said.
“A lot of the hate and perpetuation comes from like, ‘Oh you stole him,’” Hailey acknowledged when Cooper asked if there was any overlap, noting that it’s fine with her if some fans wish Justin had ended up with someone else. “It’s about people knowing the truth, because there’s a truth.”
Hailey and Justin have been friends since around 2011 and started dating in early 2016 — at least, that’s when the “Peaches” singer posted a photo of them kissing on Instagram. Justin confirmed their relationship a month later in a GQ interview. However, Hailey clarified that they weren’t an exclusive couple, as the singer was about to head out on tour at the time.
Justin and Selena dated on and off for around eight years beginning in 2010, with the “Lonely” singer dating Selena, then Hailey, then Selena again and then back to Hailey, who he married in 2018. And though the issue is settled in Hailey’s mind, she described to Cooper the angst of having millions of people commenting on her private life.
“I think it’s sad. I think it’s sad to be against someone’s happiness,” she said, noting that people have been speculating that the couple’s marriage “is ending” for the past four years. “I think it’s sad to not wish somebody well – who am I supposed to be that would be acceptable – and then that means I’m living for other people – and that means I’m being a people pleaser, which I struggle with a lot,” she said, describing a kind of “numbness” she’s gotten used to when watching fans post nasty comments about her on Justin’s Insta. If she could address those naysayers directly, however, Hailey described exactly what she’d say.
“You’re not obligated to like me, but I believe that no matter what, there can always be mutual respect between people, and to me that means, you don’t have to say anything — you don’t have to like me, but you don’t have to say anything either,” Hailey said. And though she doesn’t love to do interviews, Hailey understands why people constantly ask her about her husband, since he happens to be one of the biggest pop stars in the world.
“Even me talking about him, or talking about our relationship, people will take that and be like, all she ever talks about is her relationship with him, and even something like that, I’m just like, well we are married, and he’s a huge part of my life, and obviously people are very interested in our life together,” she said.
Regardless of what you think you know about them, Hailey said she feels like she’s come out on top, telling Cooper that Justin is her “best friend, and there is nothing better than being with the person that makes you smile the most, makes you laugh the most, he’s just literally the best human to me ever.”
Hailey also speculated that some of the anger comes from the couple getting married so young — she was 21 and he was 24 when they got engaged — and their timing was “very rapid,” though it felt natural to them. Plus, she added, they are the only people who really know what the timeline of their relationship was and she knows “perception is a really tricky thing … I know how we got to where we got. I was there.”
And, for the record, “they’re not ruining anything for me,” Hailey said to any haters out there who think they’ve made her change anything she feels or does.
