Adele Reacts to Emmy Win: ‘Trust Me to Officially Have an EGO’

Adele is one step closer to becoming an EGOT after winning an Emmy this weekend. The star proudly posed for a pair of selfies with an Emmy statuette on Sunday (Sept. 4) following the 2022 Creative Arts Emmy Awards, where Adele: One Night Only was one of the night’s top winners.

“Bloody hell I’m pleased as punch! Thank you @mrbenwinston for dropping this round to me this afternoon!! Trust me to officially have an EGO,” she wrote on Instagram and Twitter Sunday night, tagging one of the executive producers of Adele: One Night Only and adding a laughing emoji to her message.

Adele won the Emmy for outstanding variety special (pre-recorded), and her CBS television special was the winner in four other categories.

Paul Dugdale, the director of Adele: One Night Only, won outstanding directing for a variety special, and the show took home the awards for outstanding sound mixing for a variety series or special, outstanding lighting design/lighting direction for a variety special, and outstanding technical direction, camerawork, video control for a special.

“Thank you so much @televisionacad, I’m so so honored to receive this. Big up to everyone involved. @griffithobservatory thank you for letting me sing up on your mountain and big love to all the other nominees x,” said Adele.

The other nominees in Adele’s category were Dave Chappelle: The Closer (Netflix), Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts (HBO/HBO Max), Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special  (Netflix) and One Last Time: An Evening With Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga (CBS).

Adele had already won 15 Grammys and an Oscar, so she now only needs to take home a Tony to reach the status of EGOT — a winner of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, four of the major American entertainment awards.

Adele: One Night Only aired in November 2021 and featured 10 performances — including four songs from her latest album 30 — as well as a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Winston and Raj Kapoor, two of the executive producers of the special, are also executive producers of the upcoming Grammy Awards, where Adele is expected to be a major player.

Adele: One Night Only was produced by Fulwell 73 UK Limited and Onward Productions in association with Harpo Productions. Ben Winston, Adele, Jonathan Dickins, Raj Kapoor, Tara Montgomery and Terry Wood were executive producers. Rob Paine was co-executive producer. All won Emmys.

Allison Russell Put on Vocal Rest Due to Vocal Hemorrhage

In an effort to avoid “permanent, irrevocable damage” to her vocals, Allison Russell has called off her performance at this weekend’s Water Is Life Festival in Duluth, Minnesota, on doctor’s orders.

The Americana singer-songwriter, who released the solo album Outside Child last year and a re-imagining of the Our Native Daughters song “You’re Not Alone” with Brandi Carlile in August, was scheduled to appear at the music festival on Sunday (Sept. 4), sharing the lineup with acts including Ani DiFranco and the Indigo Girls.

“I am beyond devastated and sorry to tell you that I won’t be able to play my set at the @waterislifefestival in Duluth today,” Russell wrote on Instagram Sunday afternoon. “I have been struggling vocally on and off since March. At the urgent request of @brandicarlile’s (and many other brilliant singers) vocal coach extraordinaire @robertraab (who has generously been helping all of us on the road with Queen Brandi) I finally went to a specialist here in LA. I was scared to go because I felt that something was badly wrong and I was fearful of hearing it confirmed.”

“I have been put on vocal rest and rehabilitation by my new otolaryngologist, @drshawnnasseri,” she said. “Apparently I suffered a vocal hemorrhage approx 2 weeks ago and have vocal nodes that are inflamed and on the verge of hemorrhaging again.”

“Dr. Nasseri tells me that if I play back to back shows this weekend, I could do permanent, irrevocable damage. He gave me a steroid to get me through my set last night but wants me to be silent other than vocal rehab for the next week,” explained Russell, who was nominated for three Grammy awards at the 2022 ceremony, including best Americana album.

“It has been a particularly stressful, fraught, heartbreaking time in my world and I believe the unrelenting cortisol flood took its toll on my voice and body and spirit,” she added in her update to fans. “Dr. Nasseri told me that I’ve been running a marathon on a broken ankle and if I continue as I am, it will destroy my voice and be the end of my career. The pictures of my suffering damaged vocal cords were deeply upsetting and terrifying. I have a dangerously high threshold for pain, it has been such a constant companion in my life, it feels familiar and normal. I did not realize how badly I was hurting myself.”

“The good news is that with some vocal rest and physio under the guidance of voice whisperer Raab — I should make a full recovery,” said Russell.

The singer apologized to “the festival and everyone who works with me or cares about me” for her absence. “I will get better and do better everyday,” Russell said. “If you see me and I don’t speak, please understand that I’m just following the doctor’s orders! I will have my new trusty dry erase board at my side and write you loving notes until I get the all clear!”

John Legend on How Chrissy Teigen’s Miscarriage in 2020 Made the Couple ‘Stronger,’ His Fallout With Kanye West

John Legend is opening up about how Chrissy Teigen’s tragic miscarriage brought the couple closer and made them “stronger.”

In September 2020, Teigen revealed she had suffered a miscarriage after a hospitalization in which she was diagnosed with a partial placenta abruption and had to deliver their son, Jack, at 20 weeks.

“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” Teigen wrote at the time. “We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”

In a recent New Yorker profile, Legend got candid about that time in their lives and how he and his wife may never truly fill the hole left behind by the loss of Jack, but that they’re working on moving forward and being happy.

“It made us stronger, going through this together, even though we were broken in some way by it because we had to hold each other together and support each other through it,” Legend told the publication. “It’s a way of forging you.”

The musician acknowledged he was hesitant, at first, about sharing something so personal with the world the way they chose to, but he quickly realized how important it was for Teigen to do so, to break the taboo surrounding the discussion of miscarriages.

“Not only was it the honest thing to do,” Legend said, “what it did was open up more of a conversation among people who were afraid to share that kind of detail, who felt ashamed if they lost a pregnancy.”

Now that Teigen is pregnant again, the EGOT winner shared that they’re “guardedly optimistic” because of the fear that tragedy could strike again, but they’re looking forward to welcoming their new baby.

“I’m not anticipating filling the hole that we felt when we lost Jack,” he added. “I just feel it’ll be a new person in our lives to love and to make our lives more joyful. We’ll still always carry some of that grief from Jack, but we’ll just keep living and loving and finding joy in life.”

In the same interview, Legend also touched on his fallout with his longtime friend and collaborator, Kanye “Ye” West, and explained what actually happened between them.

“What it got described as was, we stopped being friends because he supported [Donald] Trump, which was a mischaracterization,” he said. “What I was saying was that he was very upset with me that I didn’t support him running for President, and that was the real impetus for us having a strain in our friendship.”

Legend went on to say the two haven’t really been friends since he supported Joe Biden’s presidency, but he doesn’t know what lies ahead for them, explaining that it’s up to Ye if he can get past it and rekindle their friendship.

“I don’t want to live a life that’s so consumed by politics that it’s the sole determinant of who can be my friend and who can’t,” the musician continued. “But values matter and character matters and moral compass matters.”

When Legend tried to talk to Ye about how he was vocalizing his support for Trump across his platforms and influencing his followers, Ye posted screenshots of their conversation on Twitter, which Legend also addressed in the profile.

He explained that he was trying to get Ye to see things differently, to use the influence he had on his fans in a different way.

“I talked to him with love and with empathy and tried to help him see another way of looking at things,” Legend said. “And, obviously, he went the way he went with it.”

When Ye decided to run for president, Legend said he found it frustrating that his campaign was being pushed along by Trump’s personnel, which raised money for Ye, got petitions signed for him and got him on the ballot.

“I saw their work on his behalf as a clear scam and an operation to try to siphon Black votes away from Biden, so there was no way I was going to support it,” Legend said. “Kanye was upset with that, and we haven’t been friends since.”

Fans Choose Romeo Santos’ ‘Formula Vol. 3’ Album as This Week’s Favorite New Music

Romeo Santos‘ latest album, Fórmula Vol. 3, has topped this week’s new music poll.

Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (Sept. 2) on Billboard, choosing the Latin music star’s new highly anticipated release as their favorite new music release of the past week.

Fórmula Vol. 3 beat out new music by Charlie Puth (“Smells Like Me”), Ari Lennox (Away Message), Lil Baby (“Detox”), Yungblud (Yungblud), and others.

The all-bachata album, Santos’ first full-length since 2014’s Vol. 2, features fusions and hints of pop, merengue, regional Mexican and hip-hop. The set also includes star-studded collaborations with artists like Rosalía, Justin Timberlake and Christian Nodal.

The self-described King of Bachata had been working on Vol. 3 since pre-pandemic times. The 21-track set was led by the previously released single “Sus Huellas,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Latin Airplay chart (dated Feb. 26).

“I’ve taken this ‘King of Bachata’ title very personally,” Santos told Billboard in his recent cover story. “It’s a huge responsibility. It was very risky, very descarado to say, ‘We’re the kings of bachata!’ But you can say anything you want as long as you back it up, and I take pride in that. I want to make sure that all my albums, whether people like them or not, they can listen to and realize there was some production, there was work put in. I’m very meticulous when it comes to my music. When I do anything, even a salsa, it sounds like Romeo Santos.”

Trailing behind Fórmula Vol. 3 on the fan-voted poll is Puth’s post-breakup tune “Smells Like Me” with nearly 4% of the vote, and Lennox’s new EP Away Message with 2% of the vote.

See the final results of this week’s new music release poll below.

DJ Khaled Lands Fourth No. 1 Album on Billboard 200 With ‘God Did’

DJ Khaled lands his fourth No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Sept. 10) as God Did debuts atop the list. The star-studded collection earned 107,500 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Sept. 1, according to Luminate. It’s Khaled’s 10th top 10-charting effort, as well.

Also in top 10 of the new Billboard 200, TWICE collects its third top 10 with the debut of Between 1&2 at No. 3 while Nicki Minaj scores her sixth total and consecutive top 10 with the bow of her greatest hits set, Queen Radio: Volume 1. In addition, Silk Sonic’s An Evening With Silk Sonic and Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers both return to the region after their vinyl releases.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Sept. 10, 2022-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on Wednesday, Sept. 7 (one day later than usual, owed to the Labor Day holiday in the U.S. on Sept. 5). For all chart news, follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram.

Of God Did’s 107,500 equivalent album units earned, SEA units comprise 96,000 (equaling 129.82 million on-demand official streams of the set’s tracks), album sales comprise 9,500 and TEA units comprise 2,000.

God Did boasts 31 guest artists, including 16 acts that have previously topped the Billboard 200. Among them: Drake, Eminem, Future, Jay-Z, Jadakiss, Lil Baby and Travis Scott.

In total, God Did is Khaled’s 10th top 10-charting album and fourth to hit No. 1. He previously led the list with Khaled Khaled (2021), Grateful (2017) and Major Key (2016).

Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti falls to No. 2 following nine nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 with 106,000 equivalent album units (up 1%). The set has yet to depart the top two rungs of the chart for its entire 17-week run on the list thus far. The last album to start off as strong was Drake’s Views, which also spent its first 17 weeks in the top two (May 21-Sept. 10, 2016-dated charts).

TWICE collects its third top 10 on the Billboard 200 as Between 1&2 bows at No. 3 with a career-high 100,000 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, album sales comprise 94,000 (another career-best week); SEA units comprise 6,000 (equaling 9.18 million on-demand official streams of the set’s seven tracks); and TEA units comprise a negligible sum.

Like many K-pop releases, the CD configuration of Between 1&2 was issued in collectible deluxe packages (17 total, including versions exclusively sold through Target, Barnes & Noble and the group’s official webstore), each with a standard set of items and randomized elements (such as photocards, posters and stickers); 96.5% of the album’s first-week sales were on CD. The other 3.5% were digital album sales (a little over 3,000). The set was not released in any other format, such as vinyl or cassette.

Lamar’s former No. 1 Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers returns to the top 10, bounding 24-4, following its vinyl release on Aug. 26. In the week ending Sept. 1, the set earned 55,000 equivalent album units (up 188%), with 38,000 of that sum in album sales (up 2,408%). Vinyl sales comprise nearly 36,000 of that 38,000 figure.

Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers debuted at No. 1 on the May 28-dated chart and spent its first six weeks in the top 10.

Morgan Wallen’s former leader Dangerous: The Double Album falls 4-5 with 50,000 equivalent album units earned (up 3%). Dangerous: The Double Album has now accumulated 85 nonconsecutive weeks in the top 10 on the Billboard 200. Since the chart began publishing on a regular, weekly basis in 1956, Dangerous ties Peter, Paul and Mary’s self-titled album for the most weeks in the top 10 among singular acts, with 85 nonconsecutive weeks in 1962-64. However, there are seven albums that have more weeks in the top 10 than Dangerous and Peter, Paul and Mary — and all are multi-artist soundtracks and cast recordings, led by the all-time top 10 record holder, the original cast recording of My Fair Lady, with 173 weeks in the top 10 between 1956-60. See list, below.

Albums With Most Weeks in Top 10 on Billboard 200 Chart (March 24, 1956-onwards)

(through the Sept. 10, 2022-dated chart.)

Beyoncé’s chart-topping Renaissance falls 3-6 on the new Billboard 200 with 46,000 equivalent album units (down 12%).

Silk Sonic — the duo of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak — jumps back into the top 10 with An Evening With Silk Sonic, vaulting 200-7, after the set’s vinyl release on Aug. 26. In the week ending Sept. 1, the album earned 44,000 equivalent album units (up 509%), with 38,000 of that sum in album sales (up 4,595%). Vinyl sales comprise nearly 37,000 of the album’s sales for the week.

An Evening With Silk Sonic debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the Nov. 27, 2021-dated chart. It spent its first three weeks in the top 10.

A pair of former No. 1s is up next on the new Billboard 200, as Rod Wave’s Beautiful Mind falls 2-8 with 43,000 equivalent album units earned (down 24%) and Harry StylesHarry’s House dips 5-9 with just under 43,000 units (down 5%).

Minaj’s greatest hits compilation Queen Radio: Volume 1 bows at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 with 32,000 equivalent album units earned. It’s the sixth consecutive top 10 album for Minaj — the entirety of her charting efforts.

Queen Radio: Volume 1 was initially available as a 27-track standard set, and was reissued during its debut week with an additional bonus track, a remix of “Likkle Miss,” credited to Minaj and Skeng.

Queen Radio: Volume 1 includes 15 top 40-charting hits for Minaj on the Billboard Hot 100, including her recent No. 1, “Super Freaky Girl.”

Kanye West Reveals His Favorite Song from Beyonce’s ‘Renaissance’ Album

Kanye West is sharing his thoughts on Beyonce‘s latest album, Renaissance.

The rapper and fashion mogul, who now goes by Ye, took to social media on Sunday (Sept. 4) to reveal his favorite track on Queen Bey’s seventh studio album, which dropped at the end of July.

“Favorite song on Beyoncé album,” Ye wrote on Instagram alongside a streaming service screenshot of the Renaissance album song “Church Girl.” The twerk-ready cut peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 in mid-August.

Ye’s post coincidentally arrives on the same day Beyonce celebrated her 41st birthday. The rapper previously collaborated with Bey on the track “Lift Off,” from his 2011 album, Watch the Throne, with Jay-Z.

Beyonce’s house-infused studio effort shot to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and also helped simultaneously push lead single “Break My Soul” to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for two consecutive weeks, giving the icon her first solo No. 1 single in 14 years.

Ye didn’t stop there. He also gave a shout-out to DJ Khaled‘s latest music project, God Did, specifically giving acknowledging to the title track featuring Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, John Legend and Fridayy.

“Song of the year next to Wait For You,” Ye captioned another screenshot of the song.

Ye went on to call Wizkid‘s hit song “Essense,” with Justin Bieber and Tems, the “best song in the history of music to date.” The track peaked at No. 9 on the Hot 100 in July 2021.

In another post, Ye also hinted at the possibility of filming a music video for The Game’s new song “Fortunate,” which West is featured on alongside Dreezy and Chiller. The track appears on The Game’s latest album, DRILLMATIC Heart vs. Mind.

Kevin Bacon Shares Soulful Acoustic Rendition of Viral Song ‘It’s Corn’: Watch

Kevin Bacon has shared a heartfelt, stripped-down acoustic cover of the viral song “It’s Corn.”

The 64-year-old actor and musician took to social media on Saturday (Sept. 4) to post a video of himself soulfully performing the interview-turned-song with nothing but an acoustic guitar and an actual ear of corn.

“I can’t imagine a more beautiful thing,” Bacon captioned his brief clip on Instagram, adding the hashtag #itscorn.

In early August, the web channel Recess Therapy shared an interview with a young boy named Tariq (aka the “corn kid”), who adorably and enthusiastically shared his love of corn on the cob. The interview has since gone viral, and reached new heights of popularity on TikTok and YouTube after being remixed by The Gregory Brothers, who are known for viral sensations like “Bed Intruder Song” and “Double Rainbow Song.”

The Gregory Brothers’ version of “It’s Corn” was released in late August and had amassed nearly 2.4 million views on YouTube at press time. The song has also been used is more than 400,000 TikTok videos since dropping, according to NPR.

Bacon’s version of the track features the actor, wearing a loose fitting shirt and sporting sunglasses while lounging on a couch near the ocean, tapping the strings of his guitar with a real piece of corn while emotionally delivering some choice lines from Tariq’s interview.

This isn’t Bacon’s first time sharing his playful covers on social media. In recent months, the actor-musician has posted several clips of himself covering artists like Harry Styles and Beyonce in front of his beloved goats.
