Meghan Trainor Shares the Parenting Advice She Gave Hailey Bieber

New mom Meghan Trainor revealed during an interview with Romper on Wednesday (Sept. 21) that she gave Hailey Bieber parenting advice.

“The best thing you can do when you have a baby is find a group of moms and join them,” she told Bieber. “It’s our lifelines.”

Trainor recently spent a weekend mother’s getaway at the Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa with friends Ashley Tisdale and Hilary Duff. “I got lucky. All the moms in our group are so cool,” she revealed. “The other day I texted them like, ‘My butt is acting up,’ and someone sent me their butt doctor—literally saved my ass.”

An Instagram post shared by Duff showed the women enjoying the pool and lounging in matching sweats while drinking red wine. “Just a couple of moms on a good night sleep …… love you girls thanks for the unwind/recharge,” the “Come Clean” singer wrote in her Instagram caption.

Trainor is mother to 19-month-old son Riley. She married her husband, Spy Kids star Daryl Sabara, in 2018 after being set up with him by actress Chloe Grace Moretz, she shared. “I told her I wanted to hook up with someone,” Trainor said. “I was like, ‘I’m a pop star, and I’m not even getting laid.’ But then he kissed me at the bowling alley after I had a strike, and it was a magic moment.”

Trainor’s hit song “All About That Bass” peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 47 weeks on the chart. Her debut album Title peaked at No. 5 on the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart.

Dave Chappelle, John Mayer Pay Tribute to Bob Saget at Scleroderma Research Foundation Benefit

Bob Saget’s longtime friends John MayerJeff RossJimmy Kimmel and Dave Chappelle came together to honor the late comedian Wednesday in support of a cause he had been a part of for 30 years.

Mayer, Ross and Kimmel hosted the Scleroderma Research Foundation’s annual fundraising event “Cool Comedy, Hot Cuisine” in Beverly Hills, which also served as a night of tribute to Saget, who died in January at age 65 after an accidental blow to the head.

The Full House actor had passionately championed the Scleroderma Research Foundation since losing his sister Gay to the disease — a rare and often life-threatening autoimmune condition that can cause fibrosis in the skin and other vital organs — in 1994. Saget joined the Scleroderma Research Foundation board of directors in 2003, but he began his involvement in 1991 through “Cool Comedy, Hot Cuisine” —as an attendee, a performer and eventually as a key figure in organizing and producing the event.

This year, in his place, Kimmel kicked off the night of sentimentality and dark humor, teasing that “these bookings have really improved vastly since Bob passed away,” with Bill Burr, Rosie O’Donnell and Kathy Griffin among the stand-ups on hand. Kimmel brought Ross and Mayer out to follow him; Mayer noted how “this is the first time I’ve come to a Scleroderma benefit where Bob hasn’t, as Jimmy said, asked me to do this event but then profusely apologized while asking me to do this event.”

He continued, “What’s so fun about tonight, the only thing that’s fun about it, is we get to show Bob we wanted to do this, we always wanted to do this.” Added Ross, “I’m going to try to keep this as festive as possible. Everyone should have a friend like Bob Saget; tonight’s a tribute but it’s also a celebration that we all got to know that guy, that he got to have this influence on our lives. You didn’t really know Bob until you saw him host a Scleroderma Research dinner — that was the true Bob Saget. He was emotional, he was the most sincere I’ve ever seen him on stage other than when he was acting on Broadway or something.”

Saget’s wife Kelly Rizzo also served as co-chair for the evening, with his children and extended family in the crowd alongside SRF board members Regina Hall and chef Susan Feniger, Norman Lear, Joel McHale, Kevin Nealon, Seth Green and Howie Mandel. Saget’s Full House castmates John Stamos, Lori Loughlin and Jodie Sweetin were also in attendance.

Feniger took care of the “Hot Cuisine” part of the evening, which transitioned into an auction that raised over $1 million for the foundation (and included two of Mayer’s personal guitars). Stamos took the stage to introduce a tribute video for Saget, after a series of jokes telling the crowd, “I’ve spoken so much about him, written so much about him, and I just love him so dearly I would give anything to have him back.”

A common theme throughout the event was also Saget’s filthy sense of humor, with McHale declaring “Bob was the most empathetic and dirtiest person on the planet…. There was no successful dirty person who was more beloved,” and shared some of the R-rated texts that Saget had sent him throughout the years.

For the comedy portion of the night, Nealon and Mandel performed brief sets before a special guest appearance by Chappelle, another longtime friend of Saget’s. Chappelle — who took the stage after all the audience’s phones had been locked away — admitted, “Tonight I got drunk because I love Bob so much. Bob, I can feel you in this room tonight.”

After going through his current stand-up material — which included documenting his on-stage attack at the Hollywood Bowl in May — Chappelle convinced Burr to join him on stage as the two riffed on each other’s jokes. Chappelle had a drink on stage in honor of Saget and played a video message for the crowd that he had sent Chappelle just months before his death, where Saget expressed his love and appreciation for his friend.

“What a fantastic human being,” Chappelle said, also noting how Saget had mentioned the Scleroderma benefit to him throughout the years and when Chappelle finally came one year, Saget cried. The comedian said he would now continue to do Saget favors forever, and though he had joked throughout his set about how he felt he was bombing, noted it was an honor to be there.

Mayer closed out the night with an emotional and story-laden performance, commenting how nine months after Saget’s death it’s still impossible for him to understand the star is actually gone, since his memories of him are so clear. Mayer revealed that he was playing the guitar Saget had played during his last show in Florida — Rizzo had tracked it down and bought it, then gifted it to Mayer, who said it was one of his most prized possessions. He then played, as he said, “Bob’s favorite songs.”

Bazzi Talks Label Hiring a Private Investigator for ‘Heaven’ Sample, Co-Writing K-Pop Songs & More

Bazzi is fresh off the release of his sophomore album Infinite Dream, and the singer sat down with Billboard News’ Tetris Kelly to talk the inspiration behind the fittingly dreamy lead single “Heaven.”

The song uses a sample from Fiction Factory’s 1983 track “(Feels Like) Heaven,” which Bazzi said he heard while he was in Hawaii. “I heard it for the first time and I immediately sang, ‘Watching you move and dance.’ We just knew. It was a feeling that we had to go make it,” he shared.

However, getting the sample cleared wasn’t as easy. “I’m pretty sure they had to hire a private investigator to find the guy, to reach out to him and get his number,” Bazzi revealed with a laugh, noting that he wasn’t sure he was supposed to say that.

“It’s really cool,” Bazzi added of the positive reaction to the track. “I made ‘Heaven’ over two years ago. It’s always interesting with a song that I’ve listened to hundreds of times with preparation, and producing and finishing it — and then, fresh ears hear it and I get to feel like I’m listening to it for the first time again.”

Besides being a singer and songwriter for his own musical projects, Bazzi has also co-written songs for K-pop artists like “We Go Up” by NCT Dream and EXO‘s “Love Shot.” “Not a lot of people know this but Korea really saved my life, in a way,” he explained. “Up until that point, I hadn’t made a dollar in music and my dad was actually driving Lyft so I could stay in LA and go to the studio. He was taking care of us and taking care of the bills so I could chase my dream. Something happened with my dad and he couldn’t drive anymore.”

He continued, “Four days later, I got an opportunity to go to South Korea and write at SM Entertainment. I placed nine songs in that first trip and got a publishing deal, which allowed us to — I would have had to move.”

Adele, Eminem, Elton John & More Musicians Who Are Only One Award Shy of an EGOT

It goes without saying that achieving an EGOT is a big deal. The combination of winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony catapults artists into a rarefied circle that includes just 17 others at the moment, from Richard Rodgers and Helen Hayes to Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The most recent EGOT winners include John Legend, who completed the feat in 2018 when he earned a Tony alongside Webber and Tim Rice as executive producers of Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, and Jennifer Hudson, who became one of the youngest EGOT winners in history in 2022 when she won a Tony as a producer of the Broadway smash A Strange Loop, 16 years after she took home the best supporting actress Oscar for her role as Effie White in Dreamgirls.

As for who the next EGOT winner could be, it’s anyone’s guess. There are a number of artists for whom the distinction remains so close they can practically taste it, with just one award of the four left to win. Among those stars are Adele, who added an Emmy to her collection of 15 Grammys and single Oscar for her November 2021 CBS concert special Adele One Night Only, and Dear Evan Hansen sensation Ben Platt.

Others, like Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, have been accumulating the necessary trophies to achieve an EGOT since the 1960s. Bette Midler and Cyndi Lauper each began their journey to near-EGOT status with a best artist win at the Grammys in, respectively, 1974 and 1985. Each of these female powerhouses needs to win an Academy Award to complete the circle.

Below, Billboard has rounded up a sampling of musicians who are one competitive award short of clinching an EGOT. (Note: Only living musicians have been included in this list.)

Latin Artist on the Rise: How Lili Zetina Went From Singing to Sheep at Her Ranch to Becoming a Corridos Anomaly

When Lili Zetina was a toddler, she used to pretend that the sheep she was feeding in her family’s humble ranch were an audience, and she’d put on a show for them. Her earliest memories of feeling that desire to sing was when she was 3 growing up in the state of Michoacán in Mexico.

“My childhood was difficult because we were very poor,” shares Zetina. “But living in poverty marked my life and it now makes me value what God gives me every single day.” Music became an escapism out of that world. And it was also what really fed her soul. “For me music was and will always be my comfort and a sort of release of joy or grief.”

Although music was part of her daily life, with Chalino Sánchez and other corrido artists soundtracking her life, pursuing a career in music seemed unimaginable. So she set aside those dreams. She married young and emigrated to the U.S. seeking the so-called Sueño Americano, or American Dream. Since, she’s been hustling, going from waitress to singing at restaurants (the same she was waitressing in) and now a promising corridos career, making a name for herself in a male-dominated space. Her songs such as “Te Cobraron Caro Los Años” and “El Grande De U,” like all corridos at their core, tell stories of hardships.

“My style of writing songs I don’t think I ever learned how to write a song, actually, I didn’t even know I could write,” she says. “But from the bad, something good always comes out. So, my first song was born out of a betrayal. From then on, I just wrote about stuff that happened to me because other people are going through this stuff too.”

Zetina, who launched her own recording label, Zetina Records, to release her own music, says that while there’s still inequality in the genre, sharing success stories like hers will inspire a new generation of regional Mexican artists. “I think it will always be hard,” she begins. “But I’ve always said, people will start believing in you when you prove to them that you mean business.”

For now, Zetina wants to continue being an independent artist and keep growing her brand on her own. “I have my own label and I don’t say this to brag. As a woman, no one will really support you. And we have to show men to value and respect us in this genre.”

Zetina is set to be part of the Women on the Rise panel at this year’s Billboard Latin Music Week, which will be moderated by singer/songwriter Elena Rose. She’ll be joined by fellow emerging acts such as Tini, Emilia Mernes, Tokischa and Mariah Angeliq. The conversation will take place Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Faena in Miami.

The 32nd edition of Latin Music Week, the longest-running Latin music industry gathering in the world, will be packed with back-to-back appearances by artists such as ChiquisIvy QueenCamiloRomeo SantosMalumaGrupo Firme and Chayanne, to name a few, throughout the week in Miami.

Below, get to know this month’s Latin Artist on the Rise:

Name: Lilia Zetina Marin

Recommended Song: It’s tough to pick but “Hola Papá” is probably the song that defines me. I never thought I’d be a songwriter; I just write what I feel. But this one particularly, every time I feel sadness in my heart, I remember about it. I wrote it for my father.

Major Accomplishment (to date): I’d say to be able to feed my children working in the career of my dreams. Today, I can give my kids a better life and that is above everything I’ve been able to achieve as a songwriter. And also, that I’m one of the women in regional Mexican that is working really hard among a pack of only men.

What’s Next: I’m enjoying every month of this year so there are a bunch of corrido duets that I’ll be releasing. I have a duet with El Mimoso, Banda Los Costeños, Erika Vidrio, Diana Reyes, and many other ones. I’ll also have a role in an upcoming Mexican film, and I’m planning many projects for 2023.

Since its debut in 2019, The Masked Singer has become a pop culture phenomenon, turning the reality TV singing competition into a celebrity guessing game filled with crazy costumes and jaw-dropping performances.

And now that the show’s format-busting eighth season has premiered, Billboard wants to know: Which famous-but-masked face is your favorite winner from seasons past?

In season 1, Monster shocked audiences when he was unmasked to reveal T-Pain, who beat out Donny Osmond’s Peacock and Gladys Knight’s Bee by ditching his signature Auto-Tune and belting out everything from Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” to Gavin DeGraw’s “I Don’t Wanna Be.”

Less than a year later, Wayne Brady‘s sly Fox was crowned the second winner over Chris Daughtry’s Rottweiler and remains the only champ thus far who doesn’t have a day job as a professional musician (though he has released two albums).

Seasons 3 and 4 served back-to-back doses of girl power. First, Real Housewives of Atlanta mainstay Kandi Burruss dusted off her girl-group past as a member of Xscape to win season 3 as the glitzy Night Angel. Then, LeAnn Rimes‘ Sun fought the moonlight as well as competitors like Aloe Blacc’s Mushroom, Nick Carter’s Crocodile and Tori Kelly’s Seahorse to become the season 4 champion.

While Nick Lachey won season 5 as Piglet, Jewel stunned fans as the Queen of Hearts the following season with her performances of Édith Piaf’s “La Vie en Rose” and Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way” to take home the season 6 trophy. And then there’s reigning champ Teyana Taylor, whose stint as Firefly edged out Hayley Orrantia’s Ringmaster to take home the season 7 crown.

Louis Tomlinson Says He Found a More ‘Fulfilling’ Musical Purpose After One Direction Split

Former One Direction band member Louis Tomlinson shared he’s had an opportunity to find new musical purpose after the band’s break-up.

In an interview with SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, Tomlinson said reflecting during the pandemic led him to realize what style of music he truly wanted to make. “Lockdown was good for these kinds of thoughts,” said Tomlinson, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic. “I realized I want to chase something else. I wanted to find something else that was more fulfilling for me at this time.”

The English singer-songwriter also announced this week that he will be releasing his sophomore studio album Faith in the Future on Nov. 11. He describes infusing the LP with both an emphasis on live sound and multidimensional production, contrasting the guitar-driven elements of his first studio album Walls

“It’s really important to me in the live show, but also in how the tracks are produced as well,” said Tomlinson. “Me and the producers were a little braver on this record. It was marginally one-dimensional on the first record where I was just thinking about guitar sounds and guitar-driven songs.”

Tomlinson just wrapped up his sold-out world tour earlier this month. His first studio album Walls debuted Jan. 31 at number 9 on the Billboard 200, selling 39,000 album copies.

Tomlinson is just the latest One Direction member to announce new music. His former bandmate Harry Styles released “As it Was”  on April 1 as the lead single to his third studio album Harry’s House. The song is now on a 14-week nonconsecutive streak atop the Billboard Hot 100.

Here Are 9 Artists Britney Spears Has Covered

In August, Britney Spears teamed up with Elton John for her official return to music since 2016’s Glory and the end of her 13-year conservatorship. The dance-infused “Hold Me Closer” is a sparkling, fresh mashup of John’s “The One” and, of course, “Tiny Dancer.”

Leading up to the song’s release, Spears took to Instagram to thank John, whom she deeply admires, for asking her to collaborate on the song. “Thank you for your generosity and just thinking of me to join you on such a brilliant song !!!” she wrote on Instagram. “How cool is it to be a background voice ON YOUR song !!! Sir Elton I did it thanks to your genius, creative, and legendary mind !!! I am so grateful !!!”

“Hold Me Closer” went on to peak at No. 6 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, and debuted atop the multi-metric Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart (dated Sept. 10). “Closer” collected an impressive 20.9 million in radio airplay audience, 11.1 million official streams and 48,000 sold in the U.S. in its first week (Aug. 26-Sept. 1), according to Luminate.

But “Hold Me Closer” is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Spears’ paying tribute to other artists that she loves through music. She’s performed and recorded covers of songs from Sonny & Cher’s “The Beat Goes On” and The Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” to Madonna’s “Material Girl.”

We’ve compiled nine of our favorite artists that Britney Spears’ has covered throughout her decades long career. Check out our list below.
