Lil Wayne Honored With Exhibit at National Museum of African American Music

The National Museum of African American Music unveiled a new exhibit in honor of Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne. The rapper, who just celebrated his 40th birthday on Sept. 27, thanked the NMAAM in a statement.

“I’m very grateful to work with NMAAM and show students how Hip-Hop has been so influential on the culture,” said Lil Wayne. “Shout out to NMAAM for all the birthday love.”

Fans who make it to the exhibit, open until Dec. 27, will be able to view Wayne’s 2009 Grammy for rap album of the year (for Tha Carter III), his clothing, a CD of his Tha Block Is Hot studio album, a handwritten letter written during his time at Rikers prison and more items.

The museum, based in Nashville, will also feature livestreamed lectures from Vanderbilt professors of African American and Diaspora Studies, Dr. Gillum Sharpley and Dr. Michael Eric Dyson.

Visitors will have access to an interactive rap studio where they will be able to record themselves singing the rapper’s iconic lyrics. They will also be greeted by a recorded virtual speech given by the musician.

President and CEO of NMAAM H. Beecher Hicks III noted in the release, “We are thrilled to honor and feature Lil Wayne and start our relationship with such a generous donation. On the heels of Mr. Carter expressing his interest in partnering with us, we found out that 10 years ago, he became the first male artist to surpass Elvis Presley with the most entries on the Billboard Hot 100 with 109 songs.”

Kelly Clarkson Reveals She Was Appropriately ‘Inebriated’ to Record Kelsea Ballerini’s ‘You’re Drunk, Go Home’

On Friday’s (Sept. 30) episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Clarkson welcomed her friend and now-collaborator Kelsea Ballerini to talk all about working together on Ballerini’s new song “You’re Drunk, Go Home,” also featuring Carly Pearce. And as it turns out, the song’s title was all too appropriate.

Clarkson recalled the day she recorded the song — the very same day that Ballerini had asked her to be on it — and how she had already had some celebratory drinks since it was her last day of work before a summer break.

“I get to the studio here with [music director] Jason [Halbert], and I get in there and I’m like, ‘Look, I didn’t know I was gonna be singing today,’” Clarkson remembered. “I didn’t know! … So I had to sing a song called ‘You’re Drunk, Go Home’ inebriated, trying to sing first soprano parts like, ‘I’m fine!’”

Clarkson insisted that she doesn’t make it a habit to record music under the influence. “This has never happened to me in 20 years!” she said. “I’ve never, ever been inebriated while singing something. And [now] I am while singing ‘you’re drunk, go home.’”

In an interview with Billboard, Ballerini said she thought of her friend of 10 years Pearce immediately for the song and then sent it to Clarkson too, trying to add “someone who can add a different texture, vocally.”

“I thought the biggest ask I could make is Kelly Clarkson, and I texted her that morning,” Ballerini shared. “She did her vocals that night.”

James Bond Producer Recalls ‘Sad’ Meeting With Amy Winehouse About Possible Theme Song: ‘She Was Very Fragile’

While the James Bond movie franchise is known for its action, adventure and blockbuster ticket sales, the films have become equally popular for their timeless, signature theme songs.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, published Friday (Sept. 30), longtime producer Barbara Broccoli discussed Amazon Prime’s new documentary The Sound of 007 — which explores the making of the James Bond themes throughout the years — and shed light on the Amy Winehouse theme song that sadly never came to fruition.

Broccoli recalled meeting with Winehouse to create a theme for 2008’s Quantum of Solace, but due to the singer’s emotional state at the time, the producer said, penning a theme song for the movie did not work out.

“Well, that was a very very distressing meeting. She was not at her best and my heart really went out to her,” the producer told EW. “She was very fragile emotionally and, you know, you understood how she could create such moving material, because she has a great depth of feeling and it was very very tragic. What an incredible talent, what an incredible voice, what an incredible person she was and it was very very sad.”

In 2008, the year Quantum of Solace was released, Winehouse won five Grammy Awards for her work on sophomore album Back to Black, including best new artist and song and record of the year for “Rehab.” She died in July 2011 of an alcohol overdose at age 27.

Though things did not work out with Winehouse, the Bond franchise has seen massive success in recent years with theme songs by Adele (“Skyfall”), Sam Smith (“Writing’s on the Wall”) and Billie Eilish (“No Time to Die”) — all of which went on to win Oscars.

“It’s really pleasing to us,” Broccoli said of the award wins. “It was so great when Adele won, and then Sam Smith, and then Billie and Finneas — so we couldn’t be more pleased, really. It’s been a fantastic time at the Oscars for our music.”

The Sound of 007 will be released via Amazon Prime on Oct. 5. Watch the trailer for the documentary below.

You Have to See Beck Get Mistaken for Ed Sheeran on ‘Jeopardy!’

Does Ed Sheeran have a famous doppelgänger?

Well, a reigning Jeopardy! champ thought so, making Twitter headlines after he mistook a picture of musician Beck for Sheeran on an episode of the classic game show this week.

While buzzing in for the category of “One-Name Rockstars,” contestant David Sibley guessed “Who’s Ed Sheeran?” after being shown a photo of Beck.

Viewers had a lot of feedback for Sibley online, noting that Sheeran and Beck are decades apart in age: While the “Shape of You” singer is 31, the “Loser” rocker is 52.

Sibley is hardly the first contestant to make a musical mixup while competing on the show. One contestant mistook Nickelback for Arcade Fire — another Canadian band — during a Billboard-themed category in January. The $1,000 prompt read, “The Best of this Canadian band Volume 1 included ‘Rockstar,’ ‘How You Remind Me’ & 17 other songs.” While Kate guessed Arcade Fire, Harsh eventually got the right answer, to which host Ken Jennings lightheartedly replied, “Nickelback: Never the incorrect response!”

In an episode in July, lyrics from Taylor Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” were used in a clue, and all three contestants were stumped by the No. 2 Billboard Hot 100 hit, missing out on the question. Swifties had a lot to say about the moment, with one Twitter user writing: “Having a little power trip bc I knew the answer to a Jeopardy question was Taylor Swift & none of the contestants got it.”

Machine Gun Kelly also hilariously went unguessed by contestants after an episode last year included this $800 clue even included his initials: “The stage name of this rapper and actor gets shortened to MGK.”

Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards Was Home With Fiancé & Baby When House Was Burglarized: Report

Little Mix‘s Perrie Edwards and her fiancé Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s home was burglarized on Tuesday (Sept. 27) while they were downstairs with their one-year-old son Axel, according to The Sun.

“The offenders have broken into the home stealing jewelry and handbags while the occupants were inside,” the Cheshire county police reportedly told the outlet, noting that they were called to the home at 10:45 p.m. GMT. The Little Mix singer, Liverpool athlete bought the property in northwest England in 2020, and the area is home to a number of stars and athletes.

Edwards and Oxlade-Chamberlain have yet to comment on the scary news publicly.

The couple began dating in 2016, and welcomed baby Axel on August 21, 2021. “Welcome to the world baby 21/08/21,” Edwards announced upon their first child’s arrival via Instagram, where she shared a sweet glimpse at the newborn’s tiny hands and feet with a pair of black-and-white photos.

In June of this year, the Little Mix star and the professional soccer player announced that they are engaged. Edwards shared a series of photos of the romantic beach proposal, along with the caption, “Last night the love of my life got down on one knee and I said… YES!”

The now-trio Little Mix’s latest release was Between Us, a greatest-hits project, which dropped in November. In December, they said they had plans to take a little break after their spring tour, but that they’d be back: “Little Mix are here to stay.”
